Central City Opera's 2017 Summer Festival, which runs from July 8 through August 6, features Bizet's Carmen and Mozart's Così fan tutte performed in repertory in the historic Central City Opera House, and three one-act operas with limited runs—Britten's The Burning Fiery Furnace, Douglas Moore's Gallantry, and Amy Beach's Cabildo—performed in smaller venues located around the town of Central City. Complementing these five widely different operas are pre-performance lectures and talkbacks, staged opera scenes, elegant opening night dinners, and post-performance socials, which make for a full and enriching experience of entertainment and culture in one of Colorado's most historic mountain settings.

Produced by Cahoots Theatre Company, The Other Cheek & Park Theatre, THE ROUNDABOUT begins performances on Thursday, April 20 for a limited engagement through Sunday, May 28. The Hollywood Museum is pleased to present "Jean Harlow: Hollywood's First Blond Bombshell," opening to the public on Today, March 3rd, 2017, in celebration of Harlow's birthday. Born Harlean Carpenter, the Kansas City, MO native would have been 106. Producer and entrepreneur, Howard Hughes, is credited with discovering many of Hollywood's golden age leading ladies, but Harlow was his first. From vintage vixens to modern movie mavens (Monroe, Mansfield, Modonna and even Lady Gaga), have all paid homage to the great Jean Harlow, who died mysteriously at the age of 26. Max Factor, who created the "Platinum" blonde look, first unveiled it on Harlow and recreated for Marilyn Monroe - both in the Max Factor Studio's, now The Hollywood Museum.

The premiere of Show Boat on Broadway in 1927 was a watershed moment in the history of American musicals. Compared to the trivial and unrealistic operettas, light musical comedies and 'Follies'-type musical revues that defined Broadway in the 1890s and early 20th century, Show Boat was, according to the "Complete Book of Light Opera, "a radical departure in musical storytelling, marrying spectacle with seriousness."

The performance schedule has been changed for 'Light Up The Night,' a theatrical concert of rediscovered and restored Yiddish theater songs by Ellstein, Goldfaden, Olshanetsky, Rumshinsky, and Secunda, to be presented by National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) January 1 in Edmond J. Safra Hall at Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place, Manhattan. Originally two shows were planned, at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM. The 2:00 PM performance continues as scheduled but the 6:00 PM performance has been canceled.

That spunky waif has been part of our American culture for more than 130 years. She was first penned into existence by poet James Whitcomb Riley in 1885. His poem, 'Little Orphant Annie',was inspired by Mary Alice 'Allie' Smith, an orphaned child who came to live in the Riley home.

To ring in the New Year, on January 1 National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) will present 'Light Up The Night,' a concert of rediscovered and restored pre- and post-WWII music from the theatrical works of the great composers of the Golden Age of Yiddish Theater. These include Ellstein, Goldfaden, Olshanetsky, Rumshinsky and Secunda. All are leading songwriters from the era of 'The Golden Bride,' which was presented by Folksbiene Theatre in 2015 and 2016. The cast will feature performers who were acclaimed in that production, backed by a 16-piece orchestra. The production is in Yiddish with projected supertitles. The full concert will be offered twice, at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM, in Edmond J. Safra Hall at Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place.

Laura Ingalls Wilder's classic book Little House on the Prairie (1932) became famous as an hour-long TV drama in the 70s (1974-1983) starring Michael Landon and featuring Melissa Gilbert in her acting debut as Laura. The books, as well as the TV show, are forever popular. In fact, the TV show runs regularly on cable channel Insp Monday through Friday. Sierra Madre Playhouse and its artistic director Christian Lebano have chosen to bring back James DeVita's stage adaptation of the stories as its holiday presentation, first seen in 2014, A Little House Christmas, skillfully directed by Alison Eliel Kalmus and featuring a delightful cast of 10, is now onstage in its revival of a West Coast premiere, through December 23.
