Review: MARY POPPINS at Palm Canyon Theatre

by Charlie Thomas - Dec 6, 2024

What holiday season can be claimed as complete without a Disney musical, right?  While one can tick that box with the opening of “Moana 2” at the local movie house, there is nothing like a live performance to energize those merry-making juices.  Palm Canyon Theatre provides that much needed “spoon full of sugar” into their magically musical punch bowl of fun, “Mary Poppins”.

Review: LA CAGE AUX FOLLES at Palm Canyon Theatre

by Charlie Thomas - Oct 31, 2024

What did our critic think of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES at Palm Canyon Theatre? Based on the 1973 French play of the same name by Jean Poiret, the musical gets the star treatment from composer/lyricist Jerry Herman and book by Harvey Fierstein and has become a gay cult classic since it’s Broadway debut in 1983.

Review: SHUNNED at Palm Canyon Theatre

by Charlie Thomas - Oct 7, 2024

Upon sitting down to see Palm Canyon’s newest production, 'Shunned' written by Larry Parr, I was admittedly ignorant of what I was about to behold. 'Shunned' offers a compelling exploration of the Amish way of life, juxtaposing tradition against the inevitable pull of modernity. The nuanced performances of the cast bring depth to characters who are wrestling with the desire to honor their heritage while confronting personal dreams and societal change.

Review: NAUGHTY MARIETTA at Kirkwood Performing Arts Center

by Steve Callahan - Mar 11, 2024

Winter Opera continues it’s seventeenth season with another iconic operetta—Victor Herbert’s Naughty Marietta.  This lovely old show premiered in 1910. It was produced by the first Oscar Hammerstein (the grandfather of you-know-who).  In 1935 a movie version was made—with Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy.

BWW Reviews: JACK LEMMON RETURNS is One Touch of Terrific!

by Cary Ginell - Mar 18, 2015

In JACK LEMMON RETURNS, the legendary actor's son Chris takes the audience through highlights of his father's career. There is, of course, lots of laughter but also poignant moments about the elder Lemmon's total preoccupation with his career, to the detriment of his satellite family's relationship with him.

Photo Flash: First Look at Open Air Theatre's PETER PAN; Production Remembers George Llewelyn Davies

by BWW News Desk - Mar 13, 2015

Sunday 15 March marks the centenary of the date that George Llewelyn Davies died in action during the First World War. George was the eldest of the Llewelyn Davies children and, along with brother Michael, was one of J.M.Barrie's favourite boys who inspired him to create the characters of Peter Pan and the lost boys. To honour this pivotal date, Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in association with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, releases images from the J.M. Barrie archive, including the last letter written to Barrie by George Llewelyn Davies from the trenches the day before his death at the age of 21.
