HERE Presents ASHES From Plexus Polaire

HERE (Kristin Marting, Artistic Director) continues its 2018 2019 season with the New York premiere of Ashes from Plexus Polaire, who recently presented the New York Times critic's pick production of Chambre Noire at The Public Theater's Under the Radar festival. Under the direction of Yngvild Aspeli, Ashes is inspired by true events as told in the best-selling Norwegian novel Before I Burn by Gaute Heivoll, and features actors, video projection and life-sized puppets.

Rural Touring Dance Initiative 2019 Tours Fresh Productions

As 2019 gets underway, the Rural Touring Dance Initiative (RTDI) will tour a fresh selection of shows created by dance companies whose work has been enjoyed on both national and international stages and can now be seen in to village halls and rural venues across the UK. Shows are offered in the form of 'menus' so local promoters are able to select the work that best suits their venue. This year's menu will bring an eclectic mix of dance adaptations of classic novels, fairytales and Shakespeare, Northern adventures and Windrush stories to an ever-growing audience who might not otherwise have the opportunity to see them. The initiative is a partnership between the National Rural Touring Forum, The Place, China Plate and Take Art.

WNO's American Opera Initiative Festival To Host Premiere of TAKING UP SERPENTS and More

Washington National Opera (WNO) presents the seventh season of its acclaimed American Opera Initiative (AOI) with four world premieres from January 11-13, 2019, in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. A comprehensive commissioning program that originates and develops new works, the American Opera Initiative provides rare opportunities for emerging composers and librettists to partner and write for the opera stage. The Initiative encourages and ensures the future of contemporary American opera through development, mentorship, and performance, with works based on American themes and stories. Since its inception, the annual program has commissioned 28 chamber operas, with some going on to future productions around the country; notables include this summer's successful production by Opera Theatre of Saint Louis of An American Soldier, an AOI commission in 2014, and Opera Omaha's and Miller Theater's recent productions of AOI's 2018 commission, Proving Up.

The Board of the Traverse Theatre has today announced that it has appointed Gareth Nicholls, previously the organisation's Associate Director, to the position of Interim Artistic Director. He will assume the role, working with Executive Producer Linda Crooks, from 5th December, the date on which Outgoing Artistic Director Orla O'Loughlin departs from the organisation to take up the post of Vice Principal and Director of Drama at Guildhall School of Music and Drama full time from the beginning of 2019.

Merola Announces Conductor, Director For First-Ever Commissioned Work

In 2019, San Francisco's acclaimed Merola Opera Program will present the first opera commissioned in the Program's history, the world premiere of If I Were You, by distinguished American composer Jake Heggie and noted librettist Gene Scheer. This ground-breaking work will be presented August 1 - 6, 2019, at San Francisco's Herbst Theatre. Today it was announced the opera will be conducted by Nicole Paiement and directed by Keturah Stickann. Information is available at www.merola.org. Tickets will go on sale in Spring 2019.

San Francisco Opera presents the West Coast premiere of It's a Wonderful Life by composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer in nine holiday-season performances from November 17 through December 9. The two-act work, a co-commission and co-production between San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, is based in part on Frank Capra's 1946 film It's a Wonderful Life and The Greatest Gift, a story by Philip Van Doren Stern.

Chicago Opera Theater Presents Tchaikovsky's IOLANTA In Season-Opening Performances

Chicago Opera Theater (COT) will kick off the 2018/2019 season with "Iolanta," a Chicago premiere of legendary composer P.I. Tchaikovsky's final opera. Internationally renowned and award-winning conductor Lidiya Yankovskaya will make her conducting debut as Chicago Opera Theater's Staley Music Director and set the tone for the season to come. Acclaimed stage director Paul Curran, known for his work at Santa Fe Opera, Lyric Opera Chicago and more, will shape the retelling of this joyous love-story, featuring an almost entirely Chicago-based cast including soprano Katherine Weber as Iolanta, and renowned Russian bass Mikhail Svetlov as Rene. The opening night and press performance takes place on Saturday, November 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Studebaker Theater (410 S. Michigan Ave.) Additional performances will take place Thursday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 18 at 3 p.m.

Utah Opera opens its 2018-19 season with Shakespeare's love story of two star-cross'd lovers in Charles Gounod's musical take on the tragic tale, “Romeo and Juliet” The production will be performed five times at the Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre (50 West 200 South) on October 13 and 19 at 7:30 PM, October 15 and 17 at 7 PM, and October 21 at 2 PM.

WNO Announces Zambello Contract Extension And Evan Rogister As New Principal Conductor

 Ellen Berelson, Chair of Washington National Opera's (WNO) Board of Trustees, and Timothy O'Leary, WNO's new General Director, announce important updates to the company's leadership structure, laying the groundwork for a new era of bold artistic plans and service to the Washington community. WNO has renewed the engagement of Francesca Zambello as Artistic Director for three years, following a unanimous vote by the WNO Board of Trustees to extend her contract. Also announced is the appointment of American conductor Evan Rogister as Principal Conductor through the 2021-2022 season. Additionally, O'Leary and Zambello have completed the formation of WNO's new management team through key hires for top administrative posts.
