MAESTRO brings to life the story of conductor Arturo Toscanini who bravely opposed Fascism in Italy and America. Through his trips to Palestine to conduct an orchestra made up of Jewish refugees, Toscanini clashes with Mussolini and Hitler showing the world that artists can raise their voices against totalitarianism. A moving theatrical experience drawing from his passionate personal letters along with music of his contemporaries, audiences enter into the mind of a Maestro.

BWW Review: Damrau's a Top Violetta with the Met's New Maestro Nezet-Seguin in LA TRAVIATA from Mayer
by Richard Sasanow - Dec 6, 2018

I interviewed Diana Damrau when she had just done her first Violetta, her role debut in the Met's old Willy Decker production. It was a part she lusted over from the time she saw the 1982 Zeffirelli film, but was careful about taking on--waiting for the right time in her vocal development. That was nearly six years ago and the good news is that she has developed into a first-rate Violetta, sounding better than she has in some time, and looking every inch the glamorous (yet consumptive) courtesan. Some pieces of theater require your undivided attention because of some deep underlying message that the playwright doesn't want you to miss. This is not the case for MetroStage's return holiday engagement of Catherine Flye's Christmas at The Old Bull & Bush and that's totally ok. This British Variety Music Hall Entertainment is full of music, good performances, and some really corny jokes. In other words, it is everything you would expect from a show set in 1918 in Hampstead, London. (more...)

When Verdi sat down to compose Il trovatore, he had no idea that he was creating opera's version of Game of Thrones. Similar to a certain TV show, Il trovatore is dark and brutal-the most merciless of all nineteenth-century operas.
