Producers Nelle Nugent, Steve Traxler, Kenneth Teaton, Benjamin Feldman, and Doug Morris (CEO, Sony Music) announced today that the first Broadway revival of David Henry Hwang's Tony Award®-winning play, M. BUTTERFLY, will open on Broadway at the Cort Theatre (138 W 48th Street) on October 26, 2017. Directed by Tony Award® winner Julie Taymor and starring Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe Award winner Clive Owen as Rene Gallimard, M. BUTTERFLY will begin previews on October 7, 2017.

The 71st Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 11th at 8/9c hosted by Kevin Spacey. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long awards season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. The City College Center for the Arts (CCCA) presents "Truth to Power," featuring Onaje Allan Gumbs and Trio Plus, at Aaron Davis Hall on Friday, April 28. The musicians will be joined by special guest artists Nana Camille Yarbrough and Mem Nahadr for the 7 p.m. concert.

Butterfly. The production will star Everyman Theatre Resident Company Member Bruce Randolph Nelson as French diplomat Rene Gallimard. This complex story about love and illusion follows the secretive romance between the married diplomat and a mysterious Chinese opera singer, Song Liling.

A new production of Rossini's Guillaume Tell, the composer's final opera, will open at the Met on October 18 in the first company performances of the ambitious historical epic in more than 80 years-and its first-ever Met performances in its original French. The new staging is directed by Pierre Audi, the incoming Artistic Director of the Park Avenue Armory and conducted by Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi. Rossini's opera tells the story of a Swiss revolutionary on a quest for freedom. Its famous "William Tell Overture" is one of the best-known and most performed pieces in the standard classical repertory, though the opera, which makes considerable demands on its stars, orchestra, and chorus, has rarely been presented in modern times. Gerald Finley will star in the title role, which he has made a specialty of in recent seasons, with Marina Rebeka as the Princess Mathilde;  Bryan Hymel as her suitor Arnold; Maria Zifchak as Tell's wife Hedwige; Janai Brugger as their son Jemmy; Italian bass Marco Spotti in his Met debut as Walter Furst; Kwangchul Youn as Arnold's father Melcthal; and John Relyea as Gesler.

San Francisco Opera today announced additional details for the Company's world premiere commission DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER by renowned Chinese-American composer Bright Sheng, opening at the War Memorial Opera House on September 10, 2016.

Great stories give voice to great music -  and the musical connection between Broadway and Opera has long fascinated and entertained audiences. In 1900 the theatrical success of David Belasco's play “Madame Butterfly: A Tragedy of Japan” led to Giacomo Puccini's 1904  grand opera “Madama Butterfly,”  which re-emerged in 1988 as David Henry Hwang's  Broadway hit and Tony Award winning  play “M. Butterfly. “  When Jonathan Larson's musical “Rent” opened in 1996 to rave reviews, audiences and critics loved the homage to Puccini's “La Boehme.”
