According to Collider, rumor has it that Bill Condon may have been chosen to direct Disney's live-action adaptation of their classic Beauty and the Beast. Ever since Alice in Wonderland's success in 2010, Disney has slowly been adapting their classics into live-action films. Maleficent is soon to be released, followed by Cinderella and The Jungle Book in 2015. Beauty and the Beast is also in the works; however, not much has been revealed about the creative team or the actual movie itself.

Folger Theatre Artistic Producer Janet Alexander Griffin today announced the 2014/15 season. With six full Shakespeare productions on stage at the Folger to celebrate the Bard's 450th, Folger Theatre will start the upcoming season with two special, limited engagements by London's Shakespeare's Globe. First, the acclaimed staging of Hamlet, seen at the Folger in 2012, returns in late July for just three performances as part of their Globe to Globe Hamlet, the ambitious two-year tour bringing the Danish prince to every country in the world. Then, once again in a September residency, Shakespeare's Globe will perform King Lear for eighteen shows. Joseph Marcell (TV's The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Jacques in Folger Theatre's 2007 As You Like It) plays the title role.

The Lark Play Development Center in collaboration with Mexico's National Fund for Culture and Arts (FONCA) is pleased to announce the 2013 Mexico/ U.S. Playwright Exchange Program. For the eighth year the Lark will host playwrights from Mexico and pair them with bilingual U.S. playwrights, actors, and directors for a ten day cultural exploration that establishes ongoing channels of communication between artists in both countries.

Katya Stepanov, a Brooklyn-based actress, dancer, choreographer, and musician, was born in Minsk, Belarus, raised in New Jersey and recently graduated from Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama. She is a founding member of IN THE BASEMENT THEATER Co, an Andrew Carnegie Scholar, a performer and a developing poet. Her work has been published in The Oakland Review and several other literary magazines. Her curiosity pulls her towards as much travel as possible, as she derives her inspiration for choreography in experiencing and observing the traditional dances of different cultures, gesture, and studying the emotional/psychophysical qualities of communication and movement.

This season's events will include discussions with Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow during his farewell season (TODAY, October 23); composer-conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and violinist Leila Josefowicz (October 28), who will discuss Mr. Salonen's Violin Concerto, written for Ms. Josefowicz (which they will perform with the Philharmonic in its New York Concert Premiere, October 30-November 5); Music Director Alan Gilbert and Executive Director Matthew VanBesien on the state of the Philharmonic (March 3, 2014); The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman (May 20, 2014), who will talk about Beethoven's piano concertos (which he will perform during The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, June 11-28, 2014); and discussions relating to the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, the details of which will be announced at a later date. 'Sacred Elephant' is the first of four world-famous, influential poems Williams has written on environmental causes. It was followed by 'Whale Nation' (1988), 'Falling for a Dolphin' (1990) and 'Autogeddon' (1991). Sheer Nerve Productions, in association with BuyArt and Cockpit, will present the American premiere of the work tonight, September 4 to 22 as part of the Summer Shares at La MaMa, 74A East Fourth Street.

New York City Center is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Fall for Dance Festival with a very special season, beginning with two free evenings of dance at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, hosted by The Public Theater, on September 16 and 17 (rain date, September 18). The Festival will continue at City Center from September 25 - October 5 with performances by 20 acclaimed dance companies and artists from around the world, including three new works from today's most exciting young choreographers, commissioned by New York City Center in celebration of the tenth anniversary.
