The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey announces its 2017 lineup after completing an immensely successful 2016 season that was repeatedly featured in "Top Ten Productions of 2016" listings, such as The Star-Ledger, The Wall Street Journal, and NJ Arts. The 2017 season promises to be a thrilling one, featuring beloved classics, as well as an epic new work. The Theatre is especially proud to be the first theatre in the Northeast to present Shakespeare in Love by Lee Hall, the new play based on the Academy Award-winning film by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard with music by Paddy Cunneen. The new stage adaptation is one of five plays to appear on STNJ's Main Stage in 2017 and will be accompanied with works by Moliere, Shakespeare and Joe Orton.

Walnut Street Theatre's 2016-2017 Independence Studio on 3 season continues with one of Neil Simon's funniest plays, Last of the Red Hot Lovers. Philadelphia audiences will be the first to see this production before it becomes the seventh national tour of a Walnut Street Theatre production. Directed by Adam Immerwahr, Last of the Red Hot Lovers begins previews in Philadelphia on January 10th, opens January 12th and continues through February 5th. This production is part of a double feature of Simon's work at the Walnut, as Laughter on the 23rd Floor will begin performances the on the Mainstage on January 17th.

Mexican musical theatre, unlike the US', hasn't been around all that long. It's not just another theatre genre for you guys; it has actually helped shape and influence your pop culture! I mean, you guys blasted Age of Aquarius on your 1969 Ford Mustang radios when it was peaking five consecutive weeks on the US billboard charts even if you weren't a musical junkie. Fred Astaire was one of your biggest movie stars and heartthrobs. A leading man tap dancer on all the biggest tabloid magazines? That would've been unthinkable in machista Mexico. Fortunately though, American pop culture is so powerful, that it permeates the rest of the World's. So yeah, we've had a glimpse of all that musical theatre flare in our lives in someway or another, but since it's still a pretty undeveloped industry (compared to yours) in the southern neighboring country, it's not surprising my mom's reaction to me getting the male swing part in Rent Mx 2016 went something like this: 'Oh my god Sebastian, that's amazing! I'm so proud.' (Long pause) 'Swing. That's an interesting name for a character'… FML. 

Last we saw our heroes, they were just landing back in 2016 after returning from 1754's French and Indian War. Things weren't going so well for the gang during their last expedition: they were pretty darn mad at each other, Flynn was still very much at large, and to make matters worse, they were stranded in the middle of one of the worst time periods of American history.
