Paavo Jarvi will lead the New York Philharmonic in the New York Premiere of ErkkiSven Tuur's Aditus; Britten's Violin Concerto with Janine Jansen as soloist; and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, Thursday, February 24, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, February 25, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 26, at 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. This is Mr. Jarvi's first return to the Orchestra since 1999, and Ms. Jansen's, since her Philharmonic debut in 2007.

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) continues its 2010/11 Season with R. Buckminster Fuller: THE HISTORY (and Mystery) OF THE UNIVERSE, written and directed by D.W. Jacobs from the life, work, and writings of R. Buckminster Fuller. The production features Thomas Derrah as Bucky Fuller. Set and lighting design is by David Cuthbert, costume design by Darla Cash, projection design by Jim Findlay, and sound/composition by Luis Perez.

Familiar music takes on new meanings when sung by the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles, whether it's 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' or Tchaikovsky's score for 'The Nutcracker.' Much the same thing happens in the films of Baz Luhrmann. In 'Strictly Ballroom,' 'Romeo + Juliet' and, most memorably, 'Moulin Rouge,' Luhrmann used pop and classical music to chart emotions, creating fresh, vibrant musicals from everyday songs.
