Simon Callow Returns to the Arts Theatre for A CHRISTMAS CAROL

The hugely popular re-imagining of Charles Dickens' festive staple A Christmas Carol, starring Simon Callow and directed by Tom Cairns, will return to the Arts Theatre in London for a strictly limited season from 8 December to 7 January.

Daniel Gortler, Lauren Flanigan & David Adam Moore to Perform at Jewish Museum, 12/10

 The Jewish Museum will present The Word: Spoken, Sung, and Played, a concert featuring acclaimed Israeli pianist Daniel Gortler with internationally renowned vocalists Lauren Flanigan (as narrator) and David Adam Moore (baritone) in a performance of Johannes Brahms's The Fair Magelone  (Die schone Magelone) on Thursday, December 10 at 7:30pm. During the second half of the program, soprano Lauren Flanigan will sing Luciano Berio's 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man' from Epifanie with Daniel Gortler. This will be Ms. Flanigan's first public New York City performance since 2010 when she was diagnosed with sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL). To conclude, Mr. Gortler, who has delighted audiences and critics with his concerts around the world and received praise for his technical mastery and musical ingenuity, will perform Franz Schubert's Three Piano Pieces for solo piano.

Richmond Ballet Brings DON QUIXOTE to Carpenter Theatre This Weekend

Richmond Ballet will welcome one of the world's most popular ballets back to the River City, as Nicolas Beriozoff's Don Quixote, presented by Morgan Stanley, is set to run this weekend, February 20th through 22nd at the Carpenter Theatre. It is also with great anticipation that Richmond Ballet prepares to welcome two principal dancers from the National Ballet of China, Wang Ye and Ma Xiaodong who are scheduled to perform the ballet's lead roles. Ms. Wang and Mr. Ma's guest artist appearance in Richmond is the first stop in the Ballet's year-long Road to China cultural exchange program that will carry the company through to a tour of China in May of this year.

Victory Gardens Theater hosted We Must Breathe: A Response from Chicago Playwrights and Poets, a special event gathering members of Chicago's artistic community to share their views on discrimination, race and inequality and engage Chicagoans in a discussion about these social issues. We Must Breathe featured performances from poets and playwrights directed by Victory Gardens' Associate Artistic Producer Joanie Schultz, and a forum discussion on the performance topics, moderated by Congo Square Theatre's Artistic Director Samuel Roberson. During the first week of November, the Mariinsky Theatre returns to the UK for an operatic showcase of Wagner's Ring in Birmingham at the historic Hippodrome and three operas originally written for the Mariinsky including the most recent Levsha (The Left-hander) by Rodion Shchedrin. With a 300-strong troop of musicians, soloists and chorus starting the tour in Cardiff with Prokofiev's Betrothal in a Monastery, Valery Gergiev proceeds to London to present Russia's national epic Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov followed by the UK premiere of The Lefthander, both in concert versions at the Barbican.

Rare Music Artifacts on Display in US for First Time in Carnegie Hall Exhibit, February 25 to May 5

Beginning in late February, Carnegie Hall will display an extraordinary selection of rare musical artifacts-put on view to the public for the first time in the United States-as part of its exhibit,Vienna's Musical Giants: Treasures from the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde. Vienna's Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde (Society of the Friends of Music) has loaned 25 priceless original manuscripts and artifacts to Carnegie Hall's Archives for this special exhibit, which will include autograph scores and personal items of composers who feature prominently in Vienna's musical history, such as Beethoven, Schubert, Mahler, Mozart, and Johann and Richard Strauss, among others. The items on display reflect the musical works to be performed in coming weeks by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna State Opera, and other artists as part of Carnegie Hall's citywide Vienna: City of Dreams festival. The exhibit will be on display in Carnegie Hall's Rose Museum from Tuesday, February 25 to Monday, May 5, 2014. Admission is free.

ELTC Outreach Students Perform Two One-Acts Based on Grimm Fairy Tales, 12/5

The Princesses can't stop dancing, and the Fisherman keeps asking favors from a Magic Fish. It's all part of the fun in two one-acts based on The Grimm Brothers' Collection: 'The Dancing Princesses' and '"The Fisherman and His Wife.' The performance is on Thursday, December 5 at 6:00p.m. at The Wildwood High School, 4300 Pacific Avenue, in Wildwood, and admission is free and all are invited. The sixth and seventh grade performers are part of the after-school program funded through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant. This is the second year of this exciting program, and the second year that the not-for-profit Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company has been involved. For two afternoons a week, almost weekly, throughout the whole school year, ELTC's artists-in-residence meet with two after-school workshops. Group sizes vary between ten to twenty students, and topics cover improvisation, movement, and working with scripts.

World-renowned tenor Anthony Kearns was featured in a special presentation of Gioachino Rossini's masterpiece, Petite Messe Solennelle, at the St. Carthage's Cathedral in Lismore, Ireland on Sunday, June 3, 2012. Kearns' performance was his second with the Lismore Opera Festival.
