Frances Seymour Fonda, actor Henry Fonda's second wife, was only 32 years old when the theater she commissioned architect Arthur W. Hawes to build opened in December of 1940. Originally known as the Westwood Theater, it was designed to be a performance space for live productions and for a short time it did fulfill that mission. Across town, movie musicals like Busby Berkeley's Strike Up the Band and Down Argentine Way were becoming box office hits as Tinseltown capitalized on the popularity of established young stars such as Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney and soon-to-be stars like pin-up girl Betty Grable and Carmen Miranda.

The award-winning VITAL THEATRE COMPANY is pleased to announce the extention of FASHION ACADEMY, THE MUSICAL, a new musical with book by Sheryl Berk and Sabrina Chap and music and lyrics by Sabrina Chap, based on the book Fashion Academy by Sheryl Berk and Carrie Berk, authors of the popular chapter book, Peace, Love, and Cupcakes: The Cupcake Club. The production is directed by Sam Viverito and will continue performances at the Theater at Blessed Sacrament, 152 West 71st Street, just east of Broadway, on Saturdays and Sundays at 3:30 pm, through February 28th. Mystery and murder is the entertainment choice this Halloween season! However, this time it's complete with Nazi saboteurs, secret passageways, flickering lights... and, well, the blizzard of the century. That is indeed the case as Austin's City Theatre's continues its 10th anniversary season shooting squarely at the funny bone with John Bishop's comedy thriller The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940. The show runs four weekends October 23 - November 15.
