Obie Award-winning Metropolitan Playhouse revives WITHIN THE LAW, by Bayard Veiller, running May 31 - June 29, 2014, directed by Associate Director Michael Hardart at Metropolitan Playhouse (220 E 4th Street). From 1912, a story of a good girl gone bad...all while playing by the rules.

2014 marks a phenomenal fifty years since Roald Dahl's best-loved tale, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, was first published. The story of Charlie Bucket, the five Golden Tickets, the devilish Oompa-Loompas and the amazing Mr. Willy Wonka has become firmly embedded in our culture, having (twice) been reimagined for the cinema, as an opera and, in 2013, as a hit London musical. Conservative estimates suggest the original book has sold over 20 million copies worldwide; it is currently available in 55 languages.

The Missionary Society of St. Columban commonly known as the 'Columban Fathers' is a missionary Catholic society of apostolic life founded in Ireland in 1916 and approved by the Vatican in 1918. Initially, it was known as the Maynooth Mission to China. Members may be priests, seminarians or lay workers. Since 1918, it has been sharing the Gospel in solidarity with the poor throughout the world. Today, Columban missionaries including priests, Sisters and lay missionaries work in fifteen countries around the globe in conjunction with lay men and women within the local communities.

Legendary lutenist Hopkinson Smith, will perform Dowland's Europe: The Winds of Change. Celebrating the 450th anniversary of his birth, the performance will take place on Thursday, 7 November 2013 at the Renaissance Library of the Fabbri Mansion located on 7 East 95th Street. The Library, built during the Renaissance as part of the Ducal Palace of Urbino in Italy, was brought to New York during WWI.

Russia's profound and far-reaching impact on 20th-century culture will be explored at the 2013 annual Bard SummerScape festival, which once again offers an extraordinary summer of music, opera, theater, dance, film, and cabaret, keyed to the theme of the 24th annual Bard Music Festival, Stravinsky and His World. Presented in the striking Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts and other venues on Bard College's bucolic Hudson River campus, the seven-week festival opens on July 6 with the first of two performances of A Rite (2013) by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and SITI Company, and closes on August 18 with a party in Bard's beloved Spiegeltent, which returns for the full seven weeks. Complementing the Bard Music Festival's exploration of “Stravinsky and His World,” some of the great Russian-born composer's most captivating compatriots provide key SummerScape highlights. These include the first fully-staged American production of Sergey Taneyev's opera Oresteia; the world premiere of an original stage adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's seminal novel The Master and Margarita; and a film festival titled “Between Traditions: Stravinsky's Legacy and Russian Emigré Cinema.” Together, SummerScape's offerings will continue Bard's yearlong tenth-anniversary celebrations for the Frank Gehry-designed Fisher Center, which commence with a month of special performances in April.
