Today Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, the esteemed annual presentation of lens-based art, today announced its curated program of Public Installations for the 24th edition of the city-wide event. Throughout the month of May 2020, a number of this year's Public Installations will address the artists' roles in building awareness, stimulating dialogue, and fostering engagement concerning a range of environmental issues. The doctor is in, as Theater J's 2018 hit production of Mark St. Germain's Becoming Dr. Ruth returns for a four week run before transferring to Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park where it plays for six weeks. Director Holly Twyford again joins forces with actor Naomi Jacobson to bring to life the story of renowned sex therapist and media personality Dr. Ruth Westheimer. Becoming Dr. Ruth runs March 27 - April 19, 2020, with press invited to Opening Night on Tuesday, March 31 at 7:30.

Undermain Theatre presents Whither Goest Thou America: a new work festival.

This spring and summer artists at Joe's Pub a?" a program and venue of The Public Theater a?" will shine a light on the breath of Latinx art. This group of artists explore music styles with roots in Mexico, Chile, Cuba, the afrolatino traditions of the Caribbean, and more. Seasoned ears will be able to discern the influence of a myriad of traditions while newbies will be granted delightful access to the nuances under the Latinx umbrella at Joe's Pub.

On Friday, elusive New York City jazz group Onyx Collective returns with the release of their new single. 'My Funny Valentine' features Nick Hakim and is a reimagining of the song originally written for Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart's 1937 musical Babes in Arms. On Onyx Collective's stripped-down rendition of the song, out via TMWRK Records, Nick Hakim delivers a delicate vocal performance over a haunting and at times tense piano riff. With the release Onyx Collective becomes one of the many significant artists to cover the song, including Hal McIntyre and Ruth Gaylor, Chet Baker, Frank Sinatra, Lee Wiley, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, The Supremes, Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders, Chris Botti and Sting, and Chaka Khan. 

Westport Community Theatre has announced their production of Our Mother's Brief Affair, by Richard Greenburgh, with Joan Barere, Larry Gabbard, Celine Montaudy and Mark Sank cast in the production. Ruth Anne Baumgartner directs the play, which is produced by Joan Lasprosato.

The illustrious panel of chosen judges, all esteemed dancers/choreographers, included Marguerite Derricks, Vincent Paterson, Anita Mann, Ray Leeper, Tony Selznick and Tessandra Chavez. All well-established and widely respected by their peers, these judges are the cream of the crop in the dance world and industry.

February is coming in HOT at Joe's Pub!

A stalwart member of the Los Angeles Theatre community, the multi-award-winning Rob Nagle will next be appearing on the Fountain Theatre stage in the world premiere of Stephen Sachs' HUMAN INTEREST STORY, opening February 15, 2020. Rob essays Andy Kramer, who just having been laid off, fabricates a letter to the editor; then, has to mastermind an elaborate charade to justify it. Rob's HUMAN INTEREST STORY onstage accomplices include: Tanya Alexander, Richard Azurdia, Aleisha Force, James Harper, Matt Kirkwood and Tarina Pouncy. The ever-busy Rob managed to find some time to answer a few of my queries.
