Tom Viertel has been appointed Executive Director of the Commercial Theater Institute, effective immediately. The announcement was made today by Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of The Broadway League, and Victoria Bailey, Executive Director of Theatre Development Fund.

BOSTON, MA (NOVEMBER 2013) – Avant-garde sax and voice duo, KOEK, featuring soprano Aliana de la Guardia and saxophonist Kent O'Doherty, present their inaugural concert entitled “PILOT” with Equilibrium Concert Series on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 7:30pm in the Davis Square Theater, 255 Elm Street, Somerville, MA. The program features solo and duo works by: Luciano Berio, the world premiere of works by Sergio Luque, Boston composers Daniel T. Lewis and Justin Barish, and electronic interludes by Kent O'Doherty. Tickets are $10 general admission and can be purchased with cash or check at the door. Stephen Sondheim and Wynton Marsalis will collaborate on A BED AND A CHAIR: A New York Love Affair, a new musical event featuring Sondheim's music arranged and performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. This Encores! Special Event, directed by frequent Sondheim collaborator John Doyle, with choreography by Parker Esse and musical supervision by David Loud, was conceived by Peter Gethers, Jack Viertel and John Doyle, and will run for seven performances, November 13 - 17 at City Center.

This Earth Day tribute focuses on how discarded materials are transformed into Artwork. The international roster of artists use recycled and discarded materials including newspaper and magazines, screws, nuts, door knobs and corrugated metal siding, tools, mail and fabrics including ties and worn-out clothing.

The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for its production of Eugene O'Neill's semi-autobiographical masterwork Long Day's Journey into Night. For the first time in its 50-year history, the Guthrie will present this Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning family drama under the direction of Artistic Director Joe Dowling. The production will star actors Peter Michael Goetz and Helen Carey in the roles of James and Mary Tyrone. James is an aging actor and Mary is his rambling, morphine-addicted wife-both struggle to helm a dysfunctional family racked by addiction, despair and festering guilt.
