Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic on the ASIA / WINTER 2014 tour, February 6-19, 2014. Bestselling author of War Horse, Michael Morpurgo opposes plans to build a 250 foot wind turbine tower in Okement Valley on Bryony Hill Farm between Winkleigh and Iddesleigh in Devon. He along with 100 other residents aired their objections to a council planning meeting. Morpurgo said, 'It is not simply that I object to this application, which I do most vehemently, it is the principle that if we allow this to go through, where do we stop. We will have a random scattering of thousands of these huge wind turbines all over Devon, all over our countryside. 'It is that that I do not want, that I do not believe the people of Winkleigh want, and that now, it seems even the government says it does not want. If our democracy means anything, this should not and must not be allowed.'

In this humorous allegory for the AIDS crisis in the 1980s, Anna, an unmarried schoolteacher, is diagnosed with ATD (Acquired Toilet Disease). The program opens with Ravel's Alborada del gracioso and closes with Bolero, two pieces that reflect the French composer's fascination with Spain. The concert will be telecast nationally on Live From Lincoln Center at a later date, and Classical 105.9 FM WQXR at 7:30 p.m.

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra announces plans for the 2013.14 Chamber Series, which will be led by Associate Conductor Francesco Lecce-Chong and take place in several intimate venues around the Milwaukee area. All performances begin at 8:00 p.m. Programmed by Lecce-Chong, the series includes works from Bach, Handel, Bruckner, Vaughan Williams, and others.
