Last year, before Adam Rahman journeyed for Hajj - the annual pilgrimage that millions of Muslims make to Mecca - he delivered a talk to the Bay Area Peninsula community about the last recorded speech of Islam's Prophet Muhammad. Rahman urged the audience to constructively and positively converse with the media on the message of peace, which is central to Islam. As he autographed copies of his first book - 'Jesus and The Last Messenger' - for attendees, a Facebook employee approached Rahman and invited him to give a speech at Facebook corporate headquarters on the topic of peacefully sharing Islam with others.

Happy Birthday, Alfred Drake! He is best known for his leading roles in the original Broadway productions of Oklahoma!; Kiss Me, Kate; Kismet; and for playing Marshall Blackstone in the original production of Babes in Arms, (in which he sang the title song) and Hajj in Kismet, for which he received the Tony Award. His 1964 stage performance as Claudius in the Richard Burton Hamlet was filmed live on the stage of the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. His final stage appearance in a musical was in 1973 as Honore LaChaisse in Lerner and Loewe's Gigi. Two years later he starred in a revival of The Skin of Our Teeth.

The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) today honored several outstanding female journalists at the 2018 Courage in Journalism Awards luncheon at Cipriani 42nd Street. This year's honorees included news agency JINHA founder, Zehra Do?an, U.S. freelance photojournalist, Meridith Kohut, undercover CNN International correspondent, Nima Elbagir, and organized crime reporter and ZETA editor-in-chief, Rosario Mosso Castro. "60 Minutes'" Lesley Stahl also received the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, MSNBC President, Phil Griffin was recognized with the IWMF Leadership Award along with Bloomberg News' Senior Editor, Karen Toulon who was honored with the Gwen Ifill Award.

The Company just presented a one-weekend-only performance of The Mecca Tales at the Middlesex County College Performing Art Center from November 8th to November 12th. Sundance Institute's Theatre Lab kicks off on May 6th, and today announced this year's participating acting company and creative advisors. The Lab, which runs through May 27 at the Fellah Hotel outside Marrakech, Morocco, is supervised by Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, and is the centerpiece of the Institute's year-round work with the theatre community, alternating locations between Sundance Resort in Utah and a venue in the Middle East/North African region, as part of a multi-year commitment to international work and a means of facilitating cultural exchange between artists writing in English and Arabic.

Penobscot Theatre Company is proud to present Transformer Tales: Stories of the Dawnland, a new play about Gluskape, the benevolent culture hero of the Wabanaki tribes, who taught the people the arts of civilization and protected them from danger. This original work is the culmination of a yearlong collaboration among the theatre, Penobscot elders and playwrights, native scholars, and educators from Indian Island. It will be performed by young people aged 4-19, engaged in the theatre's intensive summer camp program: August 11 at 6:00 pm at the Indian Island School; August 12-13 at 7:00 pm at the Bangor Opera House, 131 Main Street, Bangor; and August 14 at 3:00 pm at Blackwoods Amphitheater in Acadia National Park, as part of the park's Centennial Celebration.
