Starz & 50 Cent Extend Overall Deal; Team Up to Develop Superhero Drama

Starz today announced it has extended Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson's exclusive premium overall deal. Starz and Jackson, an Executive Producer for the hit series “Power,” are also developing “Tomorrow, Today,” based on a screenplay penned by Jackson, on which he will serve as Executive Producer.

Kokandy Productions Announces 2017-18 Season

Kokandy Productions is pleased to celebrate its fifth anniversary with an expanded season featuring four fully produced musicals, including two Chicago premieres and two guest directors. Four-time Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross and 2012 Olympic decathlon silver medalist Trey Hardee will join NBC Olympics' coverage of track and field at the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro. The Opening Ceremony is next Friday, August 5 on NBC.

Huntington Theatre Company's Annual Workshop Readings Set for 7/23-24

The Huntington Theatre Company's annual Summer Workshop will start rehearsals on July 12 and conclude in public readings of three new plays on July 23 and 24, 2016. The workshop allows selected members of the Huntington Playwriting Fellows program two weeks to focus on developing new plays. The workshop and public readings will take place in the South End at the Huntington's Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts, 527 Tremont Street, Boston.

This August, Bloomberg Summer at the Roundhouse, the annual season dedicated to introducing new audiences to innovative culture, returns for its fifth consecutive year with Curtain Call by internationally renowned artist, architect and designer Ron Arad.  Ron Arad's 360° floor-to-ceiling installation is made up of 5,600 silicon rods suspended and filling the Roundhouse's iconic main space. Alongside the installation the Roundhouse has announced seven unique music events, designed by an eclectic mix of artists to take place as one-off performances in and around the installation.

Off-Broadway's acclaimed Classic Stage Company today announced plans for its 2016-17 season, led by incoming Artistic Director John Doyle and Managing Director Jeff Griffin. Doyle, a Tony Award winner for Sweeney Todd and the director of Broadway's highly-praised new production of The Color Purple, assumes the artistic leadership of CSC beginning in July, succeeding Brian Kulick, who has led the company since 2003. For CSC, Doyle has directed Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Passion and Rodgers & Hammerstein's Allegro, and later this season will direct Henrik Ibsen's Peer Gynt.

Georgia Teacher Appointed to Educational Theatre Association Board of Directors

Richard Frazier, a drama and dance teacher from Warner Robins, Georgia, has accepted an appointment to the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) Board of Directors. Frazier was tapped by the EdTA board to fill a vacancy created by a resignation. The appointment is effective immediately. His term on the board will run until July 31, 2017.
