The Brevard Music Center (BMC) will open its 2014 season on Saturday, June 21, with the Music Center debut of one of the true superstars of classical music – violinist Itzhak Perlman. A Kennedy Center Honoree and multiple Grammy winner, Perlman's 50-year career has included performances with the world's top orchestras, television and film appearances, and concerts for heads of state including Queen Elizabeth II and President Obama. Perlman will join BMC Artistic Director Keith Lockhart and the Brevard Music Center Orchestra for an evening of his most well-loved works from film, television and classical repertoire.

The Brevard Music Center (BMC) is pleased to announce that Mark Weinstein has been appointed as the next President of the institution. Weinstein has a distinguished 35-year career in the arts having served as Executive Director of the New York City Opera, General Director of the Pittsburgh Opera, Executive Director of the Washington National Opera, and CEO of the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas. Most recently he has worked as a consultant serving performing arts groups in Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh.

UMKC Theatre completes its 2012-2013 season with a Chekhov masterpiece, "Burnt by the Sun." Russia's profound and far-reaching impact on 20th-century culture will be explored at the 2013 annual Bard SummerScape festival, which once again offers an extraordinary summer of music, opera, theater, dance, film, and cabaret, keyed to the theme of the 24th annual Bard Music Festival, Stravinsky and His World. Presented in the striking Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts and other venues on Bard College's bucolic Hudson River campus, the seven-week festival opens on July 6 with the first of two performances of A Rite (2013) by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and SITI Company, and closes on August 18 with a party in Bard's beloved Spiegeltent, which returns for the full seven weeks. Complementing the Bard Music Festival's exploration of “Stravinsky and His World,” some of the great Russian-born composer's most captivating compatriots provide key SummerScape highlights. These include the first fully-staged American production of Sergey Taneyev's opera Oresteia; the world premiere of an original stage adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's seminal novel The Master and Margarita; and a film festival titled “Between Traditions: Stravinsky's Legacy and Russian Emigré Cinema.” Together, SummerScape's offerings will continue Bard's yearlong tenth-anniversary celebrations for the Frank Gehry-designed Fisher Center, which commence with a month of special performances in April.

The Beams are Creaking is a dramatic representation of the tumultuous life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a man who became a Christian martyr of Nazi resistance because of his unyielding faith. Bonhoeffer is a German pastor who tried to assassinate Hitler, but is ultimately a more complex character than one may expect given that information. This is where the A.D. Players and Douglas Anderson, the playwright, step in and deliver a compelling character study of the infamous theologian.
