Leonard Bernstein was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He took piano lessons as a boy and attended the Garrison and Boston Latin Schools. At Harvard University, he studied with Walter Piston, Edward Burlingame-Hill, and A. Tillman Merritt, among others. Before graduating in 1939, he made an unofficial conducting debut with his own incidental music to 'The Birds,' and directed and performed in Marc Blitzstein's 'The Cradle Will Rock.' Then at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, he studied piano with Isabella Vengerova, conducting with Fritz Reiner, and orchestration with Randall Thompson. 

With tweaking and some rewrites, it has the makings of a cult classic.

During this transformative time, music, fashion, art and new ideas flourished and there was a feeling that everything was possible.

Totem Pole Playhouse, Pennsylvania's premiere summer theatre, presented their annual Totem Pole Playhouse Awards last evening for outstanding production and performances by area high school students in a ceremony at Gettysburg College's Majestic Theater. Choreographer Trisha Brown has died on March 18th in San Antonio, Texas, after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her son, Adam Brown, his wife Erin, her four grandchildren – and by her brother Gordon Brown and sister Louisa Brown. Trisha Brown's husband, artist Burt Barr, died on November 7, 2016. 

New York Theatre Ballet, the foremost chamber ballet company in the United States, will return to Tarboro, North Carolina on March 30, 2017 at 7:30pm to perform in the Edgecombe Community College Performing Arts Series, bringing a program of mixed repertoire. On December 25th, Christmas Day, George Michael passed away at his Oxfordshire home leaving a stunned and saddened music community. After the news broke, fans turned to social media the man whose unique voice will live on forever in their hearts. He was 53.
