THE ATLANTA OPERA will stage a new production of TURANDOT, featuring a reimagined ending, opening April 25 at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. The production marks the centennial of the opera's premiere.

'The Storm' was written in the mid-1920s by Clarence Kohlmann, who served as the organist in the Great Auditorium from 1924-1944. This rarely-heard piece follows a Civil War army unit as it marches and encamps with snippets of music from that era: 'Dawn' from the Peer Gynt Suite,' a bugle's reveille, 'America,' hymns and church bells, a funeral march.

Sarasota Opera Celebrates 60th Diamond Anniversary Opening With A Brilliant Production of Turandot

The Swedish label BIS Records is releasing its third album of the ongoing Mahler recording series in collaboration with Music Director Osmo Vänskä and the Minnesota Orchestra—a recording of Mahler's Second Symphony, Resurrection, also featuring soprano Ruby Hughes, mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke and the Minnesota Chorale. The album will be released on disc in the U.S. and Canada, and digitally worldwide, on February 1, 2019, but will be available in advance at Orchestra Hall and through the Minnesota Orchestra's website, minnesotaorchestra.org, beginning December 14, 2018.  

The Jewish Museum and the Film Society of Lincoln Center will present the 28th annual New York Jewish Film Festival (NYJFF), January 9-22, 2019. Among the oldest and most influential Jewish film festivals worldwide, the NYJFF each year presents the finest documentary, narrative, and short films from around the world that explore the diverse Jewish experience. Featuring new work by fresh voices in international cinema as well as restored classics, the festival's 2019 lineup includes 32 wide-ranging and exciting features and shorts from the iconic to the iconoclastic, many of which will be screening in their world, U.S., and New York premieres.
