The Casting Society of America (CSA) announced today the nominees for the organization's 29th Annual Artios Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Casting, given in 22 categories including film, television and theater. The CSA will fete their own on Monday, November 18, 2013 with award ceremonies to be held simultaneously at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles (reception will commence at 6:00 p.m. PDT) and at XL Nightclub, Cabaret & Lounge (512 West 42nd Street) in New York (reception will commence at 6:00 p.m. EDT). Honorees for this year's Career Achievement Award, Hoyt Bowers Award and The New York Apple will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

Today's edition features the late Laurie Beechman with her Theatre World Award in 1982. Beechman made her Broadway debut in the original cast of ANNIE, and later starred as 'The Narrator' in the original cast of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, scoring a Tony nod for her work. She also starred in PIRATES OF PENZANCE, CATS, LES MISERABLES, CARRIE, and more. After a long battle with ovarion cancer, Beechman died in 1988 at the age of 44.

15-year-old Melissa Campbell will be playing the title role of CARRIE in the Showbiz Players production of the regional premiere of CARRIE: THE MUSICAL. Melissa is a sophomore at Wyoming High School and has been participating in musical theater since the age of 9. She will play the part of Carrie White, a bullied and abused teenager who discovers within her the power to strike back.

People's Light's Mainstage Theatre to Become 'Leonard C. Haas Stage'

People's Light will name the Main Stage Theatre in honor of Leonard C. Haas, in recognition of his long term generosity and service as a trustee and resident company member at the Theatre. Most recently, at the recommendation of Mr. Haas, the Wyncote Foundation has made a significant contribution to the Theatre's Keystone Campaign and Endowment Fund, which will be meaningful for years to come.

Scott Siegel, the creator, writer, and host of Broadway by the Year has selected a half dozen performers to star in the concert, including Howard McGillin, who holds the record for playing 'The Phantom' longer than any other actor in Broadway history. He will be joined by one of his Christines, Jennifer Hope Wills. Drama Desk Nominees Farah Alvin (The Marvelous Wonderettes) and Kevin Earley (Death Takes a Holiday) return toBroadway by the Year. Lisa Brescia, who starred on Broadway in Twyla Tharp's The Times They Are A-Changin', as Elphaba in Wicked, and as Donna in Mamma Mia! makes her Broadway by the Year debut and favorite Scott Coulter will direct and star in the concert. Minneapolis Musical Theatre and Hennepin Theatre Trust announced today that MMT's 2013-14 season will feature Twin Cities debuts of Carrie The Musical, Five Course Love and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson at the Trust's New Century Theatre. Carrie The Musical, based on Stephen King's bestselling novel, runs October 4-27, 2013. Five Course Love, a quintet of humorous and witty vignettes about true love, plays January 24-February 16, 2014. The comedic rock musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson will run June 6-29, 2014. This trio of shows will be directed by Steven Meerdink, Minneapolis Musical Theatre's artistic director. Subscription packages are on sale now for $66 and are available online at www.hennepintheatretrust.org/mmt, by calling 612.455.9501 or in person at the New Century Theatre Box Office (ground floor of City Center in downtown Minneapolis).
