BURN THE FLOOR is coming to Sacramento, direct from Broadway. Years before 'Dancing with the Stars' and 'So You Think You Can Dance' turned ballroom dancing into must-see TV, one sizzling show was setting stages ablaze around the globe. BURN THE FLOOR, the electrifying Latin and Ballroom dance spectacular that has thrilled audiences in more than 30 countries, brings the fire and passion of their live performance to the Sacramento Community Center Theater for two weeks Sept. 29-Oct. 10 as the opening production of the Broadway Sacramento 2010-11 season. Why would someone even want to revive this show? It's insufferably long. It clocks in at three hours, not counting an intermission. If I'm dedicating three hours of my life to your play, I hope you're Eugene O'Neill. Secondly, Wilson's characters are damaged beyond empathy. (Think Tracy Letts without the charm.) They also completely lack dimension. Openly-gay Wilson actually made the character of Larry, a homosexual, a complete and utter punch line. You can argue that Burn This could be an exercise in 'phoning it in.'
