The Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC), led by Artistic Director Grant Gershon, launches the 2014|15 season, its 51st, with a spectacular multi-faceted cinematic and aural event featuring the Walt Disney Concert Hall premiere of Richard Einhorn's "brilliantly effective" (Washington Post) 1994 work Voices of Light/The Passion of Joan of Arc, inspired by and performed live to the 1928 silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc. Einhorn's evocative piece, written for orchestra, chorus and soloists, provides a haunting backdrop to the rarely seen restored version of Carl Dreyer's cinematic masterpiece, considered by many critics to be among the top films ever made.

The University of Southern Maine (USM) Department of Theatre is presenting an innovative and enlightening six-show season for 2014-2015, replete with skirt-chasing dames, lonely love-torn souls, original dance, a production at the Portland Stage Studio Theater featuring a satirical southern belle and her hypochondriac son, followed by a pistol-packing nun, and the Maine premiere of the sensational new musical, "Catch Me If You Can," as well as one of Shakespeare's most beloved comedies "shadowed" by American Sign Language interpreter-performers.

The next production in Town Hall Arts Center's 2013-2014 Season will be Spring Awakening, Book & Lyrics by Steven Sater, music by Duncan Sheik, based on the play by Frank Wedekind. Spring Awakening is directed and choreographed by Nick Sugar, Henry Award winning director of Town Hall's 2012 production of The Who's Tommy and 2010 Henry Award winning production of RENT, and most recently seen directing and choreographing Dirty Rotten Scoundrels for Town Hall this past fall. Returning for a second show in the 2013-2014 Season is Casey Andree as Melchior Gabor, most recently seen at Town Hall in Boeing-Boeing as Robert. Also returning to Town Hall, Heather Doris takes on the role of Wendla Bergmann. Heather was most recently seen at Town Hall in Oklahoma (2009) and Guys and Dolls (2010). Making his Town Hall debut is Jake Brasch as Moritz Stiefel.

Russia's profound and far-reaching impact on 20th-century culture will be explored at the 2013 annual Bard SummerScape festival, which once again offers an extraordinary summer of music, opera, theater, dance, film, and cabaret, keyed to the theme of the 24th annual Bard Music Festival, Stravinsky and His World. Presented in the striking Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts and other venues on Bard College's bucolic Hudson River campus, the seven-week festival opens on July 6 with the first of two performances of A Rite (2013) by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and SITI Company, and closes on August 18 with a party in Bard's beloved Spiegeltent, which returns for the full seven weeks. Complementing the Bard Music Festival's exploration of “Stravinsky and His World,” some of the great Russian-born composer's most captivating compatriots provide key SummerScape highlights. These include the first fully-staged American production of Sergey Taneyev's opera Oresteia; the world premiere of an original stage adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's seminal novel The Master and Margarita; and a film festival titled “Between Traditions: Stravinsky's Legacy and Russian Emigré Cinema.” Together, SummerScape's offerings will continue Bard's yearlong tenth-anniversary celebrations for the Frank Gehry-designed Fisher Center, which commence with a month of special performances in April.
