Town Hall Arts Center to Present SPRING AWAKENING, 4/11-5/4
The next production in Town Hall Arts Center's 2013-2014 Season will be Spring Awakening, Book & Lyrics by Steven Sater, music by Duncan Sheik, based on the play by Frank Wedekind. Spring Awakening is directed and choreographed by Nick Sugar, Henry Award winning director of Town Hall's 2012 production of The Who's Tommy and 2010 Henry Award winning production of RENT, and most recently seen directing and choreographing Dirty Rotten Scoundrels for Town Hall this past fall. Returning for a second show in the 2013-2014 Season is Casey Andree as Melchior Gabor, most recently seen at Town Hall in Boeing-Boeing as Robert. Also returning to Town Hall, Heather Doris takes on the role of Wendla Bergmann. Heather was most recently seen at Town Hall in Oklahoma (2009) and Guys and Dolls (2010). Making his Town Hall debut is Jake Brasch as Moritz Stiefel.
Town Hall favorite, Donna K. Debreceni (2012 Henry Award winner for Outstanding Musical Direction for The Who's Tommy) returns as musical director and will lead a live band on keyboards. Keeping her company are Adam Galblum (Violin), Kristin Mills (Cello), Mitch Jervis (Guitars), Scott Alan Smith (Bass/Guitars) and Tag Worley (Drums).
Germany, 1891: Adolescents, Wendla and Melchior, discover a desire unlike anything they've ever felt. Spring Awakening is a high energy, rock musical that explores the confusion and desperation that ensue when the onrushing tide of hormones meets the ignorance of children. Spring Awakening celebrates the unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with a power, poignancy, and passion that you will never forget. Rated R for language, mature themes, and brief nudity.
Town Hall's production of Spring Awakening is underwritten by Don and Cheryl Hartman in memory of their Mother, Joyce Hazen Litz (1928-2014). Spring Awakening opens April 11, 2014 and runs through May 4, 2014. Show times are Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. (& 2:00 p.m. on 4/19 & 4/26) & Sundays at 2 p.m. (& 6:30 p.m. on 4/20) .
