Irene is among only a small handful of disasters powerful enough to bring Broadway to a close. There was, of course, September 11, 2001, followed by the blackout of 2003 and then the Stagehand Union strike in 2007. This past weekend, all Broadway shows were cancelled in anticipation of the dangerous weather and in response to the shut down of the NYC mass transit system.

But on Sunday, August 28, Hurricane Irene is predicted to hit the East Coast. Now declared a category 2 hurricane further south in Virginia and the Carolinas, the storm is expected to weaken to a category 1 by the time it hits the New York City area, with winds up to 90 mph. New York City is among the areas expected to experience the worst conditions this weekend. Mayor Bloomberg has already ordered the evacuation of several hospital and nursing home facilities in the lower lying areas of the city downtown, however he has not yet called for a larger-scale evacuation.

Directed by Davis McCallum, Sex Lives of Our Parents will feature Teddy Bergmann (Peter and the Starcatcher), Lisa Emery (Far East), Daniel Jenkins (Mary Poppins), Virginia Kull (Dividing the Estate), Ben Rappaport (NBC's 'Outsourced') and Mark Zeisler (Second Stage Theatre's Eurydice). Previews begin on June 7th and opening night is Wednesday, June 22

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater announced today that due to ticket demand, its production of The Hallway Trilogy, by Adam Rapp, will play three (3) additional performances of each part of the trilogy. Previews began Tuesday, February 8th and each part opened in consecutive order on Tuesday, February 22nd, Wednesday, February 23rd, and Thursday, February 24th. Originally scheduled to run through Sunday, March 20th, the shows will now play through Sunday, March 27th.
