Hammer Theatre Center Presents International Multimedia Dance Troupe ELEVENPLAY

The Hammer Theater Center launches its new three-part ArtTech Series with mesmerizing dancers and drones illuminating the stage this January. Known for incorporating iPads, mapping technology, and even a complete fleet of 24 floating drones into its performances, Japanese multimedia dance troupe Elevenplay brings its distinct brand of stunning performance art to San Jose for an exclusive show. Featured in the opening act of Lady Gaga's 2014 world tour, the group has performed extensively across Japan, Europe, and Mexico, and stolen the show on NBC's America's Got Talent, an appearance called incredible and so current by judge Simon Cowell. Fellow judge Heidi Klum concurred: I've never seen anything like this before I thought I was on a different planet!

On Friday, February 16, 2018, 16 of the best young American and Canadian opera singers will perform with pianist Craig Rutenberg before a panel of judges and an enthusiastic audience at The Morgan Library & Museum. At the event's conclusion, six of them will be named this year's winners of the George London Award, an honor that has been conferred upon hundreds of the best young singers since 1971. The award, currently a $10,000 prize, is named for the legendary Canadian-American bass-baritone, one of the greatest opera singers of 20th century.

Queer Art Announces Winter/Spring Season

Queer Art, the NYC incubator for LGBTQ artists, is pleased to announce the Winter/Spring 2018 season of Queer Art Film at IFC Center (323 Sixth Avenue at West 3rd St.), January 8-April 9. Curated by filmmakers Ira Sachs and Adam Baran, the season consists of four films not to be missed, presented by NYC performers and filmmakers, as well as a special presentation by the Queer Media Database Canada-Qu bec. Queer Art Film charts a uniquely queer cultural lineage through cinema to other artistic disciplines by inviting LGBTQ artists to present and discuss films that have inspired them. All screenings begin at 8pm.

Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, presents an encore of choreographer Jodi Melnick's sold-out 2016 commission, NEW BODIES. This Works & Process commissioned work weaves together dance, spoken text, and moderated discussion with live music, featuring New York City Ballet dancers Jared Angle, Sara Mearns, and Taylor Stanley in a role originated by Gretchen Smith, with harpsichord by composer Gy rgy Ligeti, violin by composer Heinrich Biber, and commissioned music by Robert Boston.Also, Melnick, who enjoyed a performance career with Twyla Tharp (among many others), will perform One of Sixty-Five Thousand Gestures, a solo work created in collaboration with the late Trisha Brown.

Nicole Zuraitis is the 2016 New York City Songwriting Competition Coffee Music Project Winner, 2015 second runner-up in the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and the 2014 Herb Albert ASCAP Young Composer Awards Winner. She's also the Peoples Choice and Johnny Mercer Award winner in the National American Traditions Vocal Competition. Nicole has headlined the Blue Note (NYC) and maintains residencies at the 55 Bar (every second Thursday of the month), Rockwood Music Hall (with the Dan Pugach Nonet), and Redeye Grill. Audiences love Nicole's limitless enthusiasm, but that's only part of her story; only part of her talent.
