Acclaimed Tony Award nominated actor Sir Patrick Stewart will return to Broadway in David Mamet's 'A Life in the Theatre'. Stewart will portray the lead character of 'Robert', a role he previously played in the 2005 production at London's Apollo Theatre. 'A Life in the Theatre' will be directed by Neil Pepe. Additional cast will be announced at a later date. Rehearsals will begin on August 23, 2010.
Theatrical composer and lyricist Scott Alan will be joined by some of today's brightest men on the New York theatre scene for a special concert at Birdland on April 12, 2010. The line-up includes The Broadway Boys, Darius de Haas (Children of Eden), Bobby Steggert (Ragtime, Yank), Josh Lamon (Hair), Hunter Ryan Herdlicka (A Little Night Music), Nicholas Rodriguez (One Life To Live), Grasan Kingsberry (Finian's Rainbow), Matt Doyle (Bye Bye Birdie), Michael Seelbach (Wicked), Jay A. Johnson (Hair), and recording artist RJ Helton and Brandon Webman. The concert begins at 7pm.
National Corporate Theatre Fund (NCTF) will hold its Annual Chairman's Awards Gala and benefit on Monday, April 19 at the St. Regis New York hotel. This year, NCTF Chairman James S. Turley, Chairman & CEO of Ernst & Young, will honor Nathan Lane (returning to Broadway this season in The Addams Family), set designer Eugene Lee (Wicked) and Wells Fargo & Company. Accepting the award on behalf of Wells Fargo will be Joe Kirk, Regional President for New York and Connecticut. All net proceeds of the event will be distributed as the NCTF/WELLS FARGO FUND FOR NEW AMERICAN THEATRE.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced its 2010-2011 theater programming. The season will feature: a Center-produced revival of Stephen Sondheim's Follies; ON THE FRINGE: Eye on Edinburgh featuring new work by artists emerging from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe; 11 and 12, directed by Peter Brook; Chekhov International Theatre Festival's Three Sisters and Twelfth Night; DRUID's The Cripple of Inishmaan; and Penumbra Theatre Company's new production I Wish You Love, as part of the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays. Barbara Cook's Spotlight will bring six theater cabaret performers in its fourth season, and audiences will delight in touring productions of Hair, Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific, Wicked, and Next to Normal. Since it's opening in the Bay Area a year ago, WICKED has been seen by close to a million people. And the show continues to be a cultural phenomenon having just shattered its own record to become the highest grossing show in Broadway history.
The Fort Myers, FL engagement of the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning musical JERSEY BOYS broke the box office record for the week ending February 28 at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall with a gross of $1,304,292, breaking the previous record of $1,194,476.80 set by Wicked. JERSEY BOYS opened to rave reviews in Ft. Myers on February 19 (performances began February 17) where it will play through March 7. From there, JERSEY BOYS will play West Palm Beach's Kravis Center March 10 through March 28.

Composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Fosse, Godspell, Pippin) will be honored with the inaugural Junior Theater Festival Award for his contributions to the Advancement of Musical Theater for Young People. The two day festival event, which is produced and presented by iTheatrics and Atlanta's Theater of the Stars, will take place at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta from January 15-17.
The Junior Theatre Fest will pay tribute to the leadership and dedication of Music Theatre International (MTI) Chairman Freddie Gershon by renaming its annual student awards for excellence in theater 'The FreddieG's.' In 1995, he created MTI Education, the first educational division in a major musical theater licensing firm, which over the past 15 years has literally transformed the marketplace for age appropriate performance material for young performers. During this year's festival, taking place January 15-17, composer Stephen Schwartz ('Wicked') will be on hand to celebrate Gershon's accomplishments within musical theatre.
