The opening night of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra's 69th season is just a month away. Tonight, September 21 marks the beginning of Music Director LARRY RACHLEFF's 18th season with the Orchestra. Concerts will take place on four Fridays and eight Todays at The Vets, 1 Avenue of the Arts in Providence.

The October broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week — the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin — begin with two programs featuring The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman. In the first, Lorin Maazel leads Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 1, with Mr. Bronfman as soloist, and Sibelius's Symphony No. 2. Dana Carvey is best known for his Saturday Night Live characters the Church Lady; Hans, of the Hans and Franz body building duo; Garth, Wayne Campbell's (Mike Myers) "Excellent Co-Host" on the immensely popular sketch "Wayne's World," and Weekend Updates Grumpy Old Man. In addition to these characters, Dana has received widespread praise for his uncanny comedic impersonations of such political figures as Ex- President George Bush, H. According to The New York Times, a deal with Baldwin to join the the network is in the 'initial stages,' a source confirmed to the publication. Should Baldwin sign a deal, he would reportedly bump Last Call with Carson Daly from the airwaves, and his half-hour talk show would take Daly's spot.
