The Joyce Theater Foundation, Linda Shelton Executive Director, presents the U.S. debut of Le Centre National de Danse Contemporaine-Angers (CNDC) from March 10 – 15. The October broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - begins with Jeffrey Kahane conducting the New York Philharmonic in J.S. While his work stretches far and wide, a hugely insightful new book provides us with a consideration of Witkacy's artwork, philosophy and theatre together in one definitive collection. September 18th will mark the 75thanniversary of the day he took his own life, the same day the Russians invaded Poland from the east.

Vail residency with Nielsen's Maskarade Overture; Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, with the 2013-14 Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman as soloist; selections from Grieg's Peer Gynt; and Liszt's Les Preludes. The second week, Alan Gilbert conducts the Orchestra in a performance of R. Strauss's Don Juan and Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks; The Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence Christopher Rouse's Oboe Concerto, with Principal Oboe Liang Wang as soloist; and Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet, Overture-Fantasy. The following week, Bramwell Tovey conducts the New York Philharmonic at Bravo! Vail in Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man; Gershwin's "Strike Up the Band" from Strike Up the Band; Copland's Clarinet Concerto, with Associate Principal Clarinet Mark Nuccio as soloist; and Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite. From September 4-14, 2014, Houston Ballet launches its 45th season with the company premiere of John Neumeier's three-act ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream. The ballet is based on Shakespeare's lighthearted play of the same name and follows the hijinks and hilarity that ensues when a well-intentioned plan with a love potion goes awry. Created in 1977, A Midsummer Night's Dream has served as Mr. Neumeier's calling card, being seen as one of his most joyous and popular creations. Houston Ballet is the first American ballet company to perform the famous work and it is the first piece by Mr. Neumeier to enter the Houston Ballet repertoire.
Penguin Rep Theatre presents the New York premiere of The Fabulous Lipitones, a musical comedy by John Markus (head writer for The Cosby Show) and Mark St. Germain (Freud's Last Session, Becoming Dr. Ruth), directed by Peter Flynn, and starring Broadway veterans P.J. Benjamin (Wicked, Chicago), Scott Mikita (Phantom of the Opera), and Joe Ricci (A View from the Bridge), joined by Rachid Sabitri, from today, August 8 through August 31 in Stony Point, New York.
