Today, we're featuring the cast of the Annie film, circa 1982. Annie is a Broadway musical based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie, with music byCharles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and the book by Thomas Meehan. On Sunday, July 27 at 2 p.m. on the museum's Great Lawn, John Gatti will present "Canzoni di Domenica Pomeriggio" ("Songs for a Sunday Afternoon"). California Musical Theatre released casting for the remaining shows in the 64th Music Circus season, a roster of actors including Broadway veterans, Tony nominees and audience favorites from previous Music Circus seasons, as well as actors with Sacramento-area ties. A watershed of American musical theater, Show Boat receives its Company premiere in director Francesca Zambello's new grand-scale "beautifully sung, smartly staged and handsomely designed (Chicago Tribune)" production. A beloved story of life on the Mississippi in the 1880s, Show Boat is both a poignant love story and a powerful reminder of America's bitter legacy of racism. The schedule for this summer's Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival, which runs from July 20 to August 10, was announced today by Bill Bragin, Lincoln Center's Director of Public Programming. Nearly 100 free performances will take place across the plazas of Lincoln Center during three weeks. A special Memorial Concert for Pete and Toshi Seeger on July 20 will be followed by the official opening concert on July 23 with Larry Harlow's Hommy: A Latin Opera, the landmark work's first performance in 40 years.
