Connie Fisher, star of The Sound of Music and winner of the BBC's How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria, returns to Birmingham Hippodrome in the multi award-winning musical comedy, Wonderful Town.



Featuring a superb score by legendary American composer Leonard Bernstein (West Side Story), the show has received countless awards since its premiere in 1953 including the prestigious Tony Award for Best Musical.

Daniel Reichard, Christian Hoff, J. Robert Spencer and Michael Longoria - the quartet of remarkable performers known collectively as The Midtown Men - are perhaps best known for their musical evocations of the best guy groups of the 1950s and 1960s, thanks to their previous starmaking turns in Broadway's Jersey Boys and their current concert tour, bringing their special brand of repartee, music and friendship to audiences all over North America. So, it might come as a surprise to their legions of fans that next up on the set list will be their 'interpretation,' if you will, of the very best of the girl groups.

Ten Years After: Remembering Circle Players' ASSASSINS and 9/11

In the days that followed the 9/11 attacks, Circle leaders and members of the Assassins production team were forced to consider closing the show (included in Sondheim's musical is the character of Samuel Byck, an unsuccessful presidential assassin who talks vividly about flying an airplane into the White House to kill President Richard Nixon in 1968. As Circle leaders discussed whether to shutter the show for a weekend, or to cancel the remaining three weeks of the show's run, the show's cast members debated whether or not they could justify to themselves, their friends and their families their own decision to continue with the show in the days just after the deadliest attack ever on American soil.

On April 21, 1961, Broadway audiences and critics fellhead-over-heels in love with the new musical Carnival. Produced by David Merrick and adapted from the MGM film Lili by Michael Stewart (from thescreenplay by Helen Deutsch, itself adapted from a Paul Gallico short storyentitled The Man Who Hated People), theshow was directed and choreographed by Gower Champion and had a tuneful andmemorable score by Bob Merrill. The critics raved - in the Daily News, John Chapman wrote that Carnival was 'enchantment from the moment the houselights godown.' And so it was, pureenchantment, despite its darker elements - it ran on Broadway for 719 performances, and had a best-selling original cast recording (which debuted atnumber one on the Billboard chart) and 'Love Makes The World Go Round' became amuch-sung song, covered by many of the popular singers of the time. Carnival was nominated for seven Tony Awards, winning two(one for Alberghetti - in a tie with Diahann Carroll - and one for Will StevenArmstrong's scenic design). The show had a successful national tour, as well.

Deadline.com is reporting that 'Laura Benanti is set to star in NBC's drama pilot Playboy. The project, from 20th TV/Imagine TV, is set at the Playboy Club in Chicago in 1963. Benanti will play Carol-Lynne, a 30-year-old bombshell and an established star at the Playboy Club who knows that her days as a Bunny are numbered.'
