A New Musical
This September the city will be taken back in time to 1914 for the Merseyside First World War Commemoration, a special weekend programme of events to mark the 100 year anniversary since Britain entered in to the First World War, brought by The First World War Commemoration Task Group from Fri 12 – Sun 14 September.
NewFilmmakers is a unique Screening Series that gives new filmmakers the opportunity to screen their films in New York, Los Angeles, and Online. On Wednesday, August 20th, NewFilmmakers NY presents a Documentary Series, two Special Programs, a Short Film Program, and the new feature THE BEEKEEPER.
In celebration of the life and times of funk master Rick James, the 2014 Funk Festival is taking over the Fox Theatre on Saturday, October 4 at 8 p.m. The lineup is loaded with funk stars including Cameo, the Mary Jane Girls featuring Val Young and The Family Stone, the Zapp band, Al Hudson and One Way and Jalil and Exstacy of Whodini. Funny-man Charlie Murphy of the Dave Chappelle Show will host the festival celebration.
The Old Globe today announced the full cast and creative team for the World Premiere of Bright Star, a new American musical featuring music by Edie Brickell and Steve Martin, lyrics by Brickell, and book by Martin, based on an original story by Martin and Brickell. Directed by Walter Bobbie, Bright Star will run September 13 - November 2, 2014 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run September 13 - September 27. Opening night is Sunday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m. Single tickets go on sale on Friday, August 8 at noon.
The Music Hall has announced seven new shows coming to its already robust and diverse 2014-2015 season of performances, cinema, and literary events on stage and on screen in two theaters. Tickets for the season go on sale first to Music Hall members Saturday, August 7 and are on sale to non-members starting Saturday August 16.

The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, New York Live Arts' Resident Dance Company, announced today the touring programs and productions for the 2014-2015 Season. A portrait of a dysfunctional family filled with weighty dialogue, humor, and passion, Kushner's four-act play previews Friday, May 16, opens on Wednesday, May 21, and runs through Sunday, June 29, 2014.

The Old Vic today announced its programme for Summer/Autumn 2014. The CQS Space, The Old Vic in the round, will be home to the whole season of productions, continuing after Other Desert Cities which opens this month. The plays will be performed in the round, a transformation of The Old Vic's auditorium first seen for the award-winning 2008 production of The Norman Conquests. The season of productions is supported for the fourth consecutive year by Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
