Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the roster for Lincoln Center's fourth multidisciplinary White Light Festival, October 24 through November 23, 2013. The Festival's focus is music's capacity to illuminate the many dimensions of our interior lives, with a particular emphasis this year on the power of the voice. Spanning numerous musical traditions, genres, and disciplines, the Festival will offer 23 performances, films, and events featuring seven premieres and debuts by artists and companies from more than a dozen countries, including France, India, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, the U.K., Mali, Estonia, Italy, Austria, Canada and the U.S. New to this edition of the Festival is White Light on Film, film screenings followed by discussions with their directors. Other Festival components include: a panel discussion focused on the subject of time, pre- and post-performance artist discussions, and the popular post-performance White Light Lounges.
Leading young violinist Nigel Armstrong, the 2011 International Tchaikovsky Competition finalist who made his critically acclaimed Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) debut last season, returns to the Southland on Thursday, April 11, 2013, 7 pm, at Zipper Hall in downtown Los Angeles, to headline an all-Bach violin recital for LACO's “Baroque Conversations,” a five-concert series that explores the genesis of orchestral repertoire from early Baroque schools through the pre-classical period. Hailed as “an astonishing talent, with exquisite technique,” Armstrong discusses and performs Bach's Partita No. 2 in D minor for Solo Violin, BWV 1004, a spiritual, emotional and technical tour de force considered among the greatest works ever written, and the Sonata No. 3 in C major for Solo Violin, BWV 1005. The solo recital marks Armstrong's return to his alma mater, The Colburn Conservatory, from which he graduated last year. He is currently in the Diploma program at Curtis Institute of Music. A complimentary wine reception for ticket holders begins at 6 pm.

BASE Entertainment has just announced that DINER, a new musical based on the critically acclaimed 1982 film with a book by Academy Award winner and original DINER screenwriter Barry Levinson and music & lyrics by 9-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow, will have its pre-Broadway world premiere at San Francisco's SHN Curran Theatre (445 Geary Street). Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall, DINER will play a strictly limited four week engagement from Tuesday, October 23, 2012, through Sunday, November 18, 2012, with an opening night of Friday, November 2, 2012. Due to these confirmed San Francisco dates DINER will now bow on Broadway in the spring of 2013, instead of the fall of 2012 as previously announced. Design team and casting will be announced at a later date.
