New York Philharmonic to Return to Bravo! Vail for 12th Annual Summer Residency, 7/18-25

The New York Philharmonic will return to Bravo! Vail in Colorado for the Orchestra's 12th- annual summer residency there, performing six concerts July 18-25, 2014. Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct three programs, July 18-20, featuring works by composers for whom he has advocated during his tenure, ranging from Nielsen to The Marie-Jose?e Kravis Composer-in- Residence Christopher Rouse. The other Philharmonic concerts will be conducted by Bramwell Tovey (July 23 and 25) and Ted Sperling (July 24), and will feature works by Copland, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Loesser, among others.

SecondStory Repertory will present Kander and Ebb's rarely produced masterpiece, Kiss of the Spider Woman, a sensual musical set all at once in the brutal reality of a Latin American prison, and in the airily glamorous world of the silver screen that plays endlessly in the mind of long-time prison inmate, Luis Alberto Molina. With a book by Terrence McNally, and based on the Manuel Puig novel 'El Beso de la Mujer Araña', Kiss of the Spider Woman won the 1993 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score. Running today, March 28 through April 13, 2014, Kiss of the Spider Woman is directed by Billie Wildrick who recently returned to Seattle after her Broadway debut in Kathy Lee Gifford's Scandalous.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, former Livent executive Garth Drabinksy has been denied full parole in because he was unable to 'assure authorities his current business ventures do not risk a return to fraudulent activities.' Drabinsky and his business partner Myron Gottlieb were convicted of two counts of fraud in 2009 after misreporting Livent's quarterly financial statements after the company went public, from 1993 to 1998. Gottlieb received a four-year sentence.

Happy Birthday Brent Carver! Carver is best known for his performances on Broadway in Kiss of the Spider Woman as Molina, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical in 1993, Fiddler on the Roof, and Parade as Leo Frank. Carver originated the role of Gandalf in the Toronto stage production of The Lord of the Rings and has appeared in several Soulpepper Theatre Company productions such as The Wild Duck, Don Carlos and the Pirate King in the 1985 production of The Pirates of Penzance.

Once again, Profiles Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox returns to direct a cast of 34 with Dillon joining the cast as the beleaguered cab driver and ensemble member Eric Burgher assistant directing. Profiles' production runs at The Main Stage, 4139 N. Broadway, tonight, November 8, 2013 - January 12, 2014. Please note new opening date: Wednesday, November 13, at 8:00 pm.

I hardly know where to begin with this review of the Bohemian Theatre Ensemble's gutsy, stripped-down and yet somehow epic production of “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” the musical by John Kander, Fred Ebb and Terrence McNally that is running at Theatre Wit through June 30, 2013. There, I guess I just began. I'm a jumble of thoughts and feeling right now. Come to think of it, so are the three principal characters.

Producer Garth Drabinsky Fights to Block Removal from Order of Canada

According to court documents, in November the Advisory Committee of the Order of Canada brought forward a recommendation to Governor General David Johnston that would strip former Livent executive Garth Drabinksy of his Order of Canada. Now, Drabinsky is fighting back. Published reports confirm that on Thursday Drabisnky filed a legal application to block the termination. In his application he claims that a criminal conviction should not be cause for removal of the prestigious honor.
