2019 has come and gone, and we are reflecting on those we have lost in the Broadway and theatre communities throughout the year.

Two time Tony Award nominee Christine Andreas is bringing back her show HERE'S TO THE BROADWAY LADIES for one night at the arts center of On Stage at Kingsborough. Here, she talks with Stephen Mosher about the show, about cabaret, and about the time Ethel Merman spoke to her from beyond.

What do you get when you mix aspects of GYPSY, THE BAD SEED, and ALL ABOUT EVE with a heavy dose of camp and a soupçon of soap opera? RUTHLESS! THE MUSICAL, an all-female homage to overly-ambitious child actors, sleazy agents, poison pen critics, and jealous understudies that is a star vehicle for a little girl with stars in her eyes. In its second season on the Boston theater scene, Theater UnCorked takes a first crack at musical comedy and, even as it hits a few bumps along the way, it hits the funny bone again and again.

A musical comedy noir, with book by Maureen Chadwick, co-creator of the original TV series, and music & lyrics by Kath Gotts (also co-creators of 'Bad Girls - The Musical'), 'Footballers' Wives - The Musical' is based around the first TV series, and follows the fall and rise of super-bitch Tanya Turner - captain's wife and old school femme fatale - as she struggles to keep her marriage afloat to footballer and lothario, Jason Turner, amidst groupies, meddling club chairmen, deception, betrayal and murder.

Martin McDonagh's fiendishly funny story The Lonesome West opens August 22 at Little Fish Theatre. This Tony-nominated play about the squabble between two brothers runs for four weeks, and is directed by LFT company member, and StageScene LA and Ovation Award-winner Stephanie Coltrin.

MTV Studios, a unit of MTV and Viacom (NASDAQ: VIAB, VIA) today announced Peabody(R), Emmy(R) and Golden Globe(R) winning actress Tracee Ellis Ross will voice and executive produce 'Jodie,' the first in a series of spinoffs based on MTV's iconic 'Daria' franchise. 'Daria,' which ran for five seasons (1997-2002) came out of MTV's 'Beavis and Butthead' based on the widespread appeal of the Daria Morgendorffer character whose wry wisdom was beyond her high school years. Daria was hailed for her feminist take on key issues such as class, race and gender.

Joan Jaffe revisits the classic ladies of jazz in her show, Little Girl Blue, an intimate show of new and classic songs, with a guest appearance by Charles Baran, and actor/comedian, Kuni Mikamion piano. Little Girl Blue, plays at Don't Tell Mama on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 7 pm. Jaffe explores the classic songs and standards of the great female artists June Christy, Carmen McRae, Cleo Laine and Rosemary Clooney, and the music of composers ranging from Rogers and Hart to Leonard Bernstein.

The Susan B. Anthony Project, in conjunction with LoveArtPlay, will present Eve Ensler's THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, on Friday, February 15 at 7:00 pm in the Warner's Nancy Marine Studio Theatre as a special fundraiser. An Obie Award-winning whirlwind tour of a forbidden zone, THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a six-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who liked to look at it. Ensler breaks taboos by talking, talking and talking some more - stripping fear and shame from what she celebrates here. It makes for quite a party. Funny, outrageous, emotionally affecting, and occasionally angry The Vagina Monologues confront words to demystify and disarm them. In so doing, Ensler disarms the audience too. The Michael Cassel Group announced three senior appointments to support its growing production slate, including major Australian theatrical productions, international touring and concert presentations. Seasoned producer and entertainment executive Todd Lacy joins as Head of Production, Mark Sutcliffe joins as Director of Concerts and Events, and Glenn McGuinness joins as Director of Business Affairs.

Film and television star Elton Landrew joins the cast of LANGARM, the new musical by South African legend David Kramer. He will create the role of Eddie Jephta, leader of the Moonlight Serenaders langarm band, in the production which has its world premiere at The Fugard Theatre from 20 November.

The classic comic face, Arsenic and Old Lace, by Joseph Kesserlring is kicking off Meadow Brook Theatre's 53rd season is opening this week and running through October 28th in Rochester. Two sweet, older ladies who look like they wouldn't hurt a fly have been adding a dash of something special to their elderberry wine - poison. But what happens when their nephew, his fiancee, his uncle (who thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt), and a bunch of other colorful characters come to visit? Hysterical chaos, that's what! BroadwayWorld Detroit had chance to talk with director, Travis W. Walter, and Mary Robin Roth, who plays the role of Abby, about the hilarious Arsenic and Old Lace before it opens this week.

Daniela Mack is Isabella, an Italian pilot, who makes an emergency landing in Algiers and is captured by its ruler, the Bey. He wants an Italian girl for a wife but she loves Lindoro, the Bey's Italian slave. L'ITALIANA has lots of good bel canto singing and plenty of comedy to keep you smiling all evening. There are three more performances, Aug 3, 9 and 17.

Pittsburgh CLO's THE FULL MONTY will take it all off at the Benedum Center this summer July 6 - 15. With a book written by Terrence McNally (Ragtime) and the music/ lyric talents of David Yazbek (The Band's Visit, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), this duo cooks up an aggressive crowd-pleaser that is both highly-entertaining and charmingly uplifting.

Parsons Dance - under the Artistic Direction of David Parsons - is excited to announce that its annual gala will take place on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, as part of the company's recently announced two-week return engagement to New York City's Joyce Theater. This year's gala, honoring legendary Broadway composer and multiple award-winner Stephen Schwartz, will feature two pieces specially created for the evening, in addition to the previously announced Joyce Theater programing.

The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History recently received a donation from the family of actress Jean Stapleton (1923-2013) that showcases her career. The objects range from the apron she wore while playing Edith Bunker in All in the Family, a crew jacket from the set of All in the Family, a selection of the awards that she won throughout her career, costumes and props from her career in theater and TV, memorabilia related to her work as a women's rights activist and papers reflecting her dedication Eleanor Roosevelt's legacy.

BroadwayWorld has teamed up with Broadway alum Ilana Levine, who makes her entrance onto the podcast stage with her new show Little Known Facts. Ilana's unique brand of celebrity interview, 'Podcast Verite,' is unfiltered, raw, honest and uniquely funny.
