Just as Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens's 1999 musical RAGTIME traverses numerous locales on the East Coast and spans the years from 1906-1914, so too does director Scott Weinstein's dynamic staging make full use of The Den Theatre's Heath Mainstage. In Griffin Theatre Company's production, Weinstein's in-the-round staging often has actors dispersed among the audience (indeed, a handful of performers appeared right in front and me and even made eye contact during the performance). While this is an intimate production of a sweeping musical, this genius device lends RAGTIME the grand air it commands. The closeness of the action also lends pathos to this story of three American families-one white and privileged, one black, and one immigrant-as they navigate a changing country at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Good Nature Organic Lawn Care Founder, Alec McClennan is making a difference across the country by creating resources for families to attain safer outdoor living spaces with his first book 'A Beautiful Lawn Organically.'
Alec McClennan started out as many of us do in biology class, wondering how the information about plants and chemicals would ever apply to him. However, the Chagrin Falls, OH native who once touted his football helmet everyday recently swapped it out for a pen and paper to write about his other passion, organic lawn care, with his first book titled A Beautiful Lawn Organically.
'There are so many beautiful green lawns with signs posted across the front that read, 'Caution Keep Children and Pets Off', but we all know how well kids and pets listen when it's the first nice day outside and all they want to do is roll in the grass. I wrote my new book so that I can help educate families about just how easy it is to still have that same beautiful lawn, but also have a lawn that is safer, because for me, especially as a parent, that's even more important,' explains McClennan.
A Beautiful Lawn Organically is an easy-to-understand book highlighting options that readers can use to create a safer outdoor environment for their families & pets allowing them the peace of mind to 'keep on the grass.' The book offers a multi-faceted approach of instructional measures as well as identification methods to maintain a beautiful lawn without the use of chemicals. McClennan hopes his book will teach readers about the many alternatives to chemicals in hopes that it can keep families safe.
The book is organized into four parts. The first part discusses how to diagnose and correct traditional lawn problems such as poor soil, heavy thatch, weeds, lawn disease and pests. Part two of the book helps the reader design a lawn care plan for them and instructs readers about fertilization, seeding, watering and proper mowing techniques. In part three, McClennan outlines how over a one-year period, readers can go from a chemically treated yard, to a natural organic lawn. Lastly, section four in the book describes organic alternatives to a traditional lawn including the 'retro' clover yard, the 'low-mow' lawn, the Freedom lawn and how to put it all together.
A Beautiful Lawn Organically is the perfect guide to getting your lawn looking great, and doing so safely this spring. The book is available at: http://store.whygoodnature.com/ for $16.95 plus shipping. It is also available for Kindle for $8.99 and through Amazon.com.
Good Nature Lawn Care's Mission is to 'Make the world a little better place, one organic landscape at a time!' They are based out of Cleveland, OH and were founded in 1999. They serve the Cleveland, Columbus and Akron areas.
