As part of the UK-India Year of Culture in 2017, the Indian High Commission, the Ministry of Culture, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and leading Indian festival producer Teamwork Arts are bringing a selection of some of the best in Indian theatre, dance and music to Edinburgh's Festivals this August.

This September, highlighting O17 - the first edition of its game-changing new annual season-opening festival - Opera Philadelphia presents the world premiere of Elizabeth Cree in collaboration with London's Hackney Empire (Sep 14-23).

WICKED, the West End musical phenomenon that tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz, will tonight play its 4567th performance at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, surpassing the triumphant run of Billy Elliot The Musical to become the 16th longest running show in London theatre history. 

Producer Rick Murray will present two-time Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell in his Provincetown debut, Sunday August 6 for two performances only, 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. in the Paramount Theatre at The Crown & Anchor. Mr. Mitchell will be accompanied by acclaimed music director and conductor Mark Hummel.

The Glimmerglass Festival presents award-winning composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz in an afternoon of stories and songs at the Alice Busch Opera Theater today, July 21, at 4:30 p.m.

WICKED, the West End musical phenomenon that tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz, has just released the first pictures of Alice Fearn (Elphaba), Sophie Evans (Glinda), Bradley Jaden (Fiyero), Melanie La Barrie (Madame Morrible), Andy Hockley (The Wizard) and Jack Lansbury (Boq) who will lead the new London cast from 24 July 2017 at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, joining current cast members Martin Ball (Doctor Dillamond) and Sarah McNicholas (Nessarose). This September, Opera Philadelphia launches O17, the inaugural edition of its game-changing new annual season-opening festival. A twelve-day immersion that promises to "blanket the city with opera" (Washington Post), the festival kicks off new partnerships with two key local cultural institutions. Each will host one of the festival's seven operatic happenings, both of them new operas developed - like 2016's award-winning sensation Breaking the Waves - under the auspices of the company's celebrated Composer in Residence program. 

September marks the launch of O17, the inaugural edition of Opera Philadelphia's game-changing new annual season-opening festival, and We Shall Not Be Moved (Sep 16-24) is one of three world premieres with which the company looks forward to baptizing the festival by fire.

Bay Street Theater is pleased to announce the full cast for AS YOU LIKE IT by William Shakespeare, directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle. The production will run at Bay Street Theater from August 8 - September 3. The production will star Hannah Cabell (The Father, Men on Boats, Major Barbara) as Rosalind, Academy Award, Emmy Award and Tony Award winner Ellen Burstyn (Same Time, Next Year, The Last Picture Show, The Exorcist) as Jacques, and Andre De Shields (The Full Monty, Ain't Misbehavin', The Wiz) as Touchstone.

As previously announced, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its mission to bring new works to Bay Area audiences with the World Premiere of The Prince of Egypt, a soaring celebration of the human spirit inspired by the acclaimed DreamWorks Animation film, running October 6 - November 5, 2017 at Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.

A day-of-performance lottery for a limited number of orchestra seats will be held for WICKED, which is returning to the Boston Opera House June 7 - July 23, 2017. 

WICKED, Broadway's biggest blockbuster, will make its Grand Rapids premiere on the DeVos Performance Hall stage October 18- November 5.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, in July, Bay Street Theater and DreamWorks Theatricals canceled plans for a premiere concert reading of the new stage adaptation of The Prince of Egypt, book by Philip LaZebnik (writer of Mulan, Pocahontas) and music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (composer of Wicked, Pippin, Godspell) after controversy arose about the reading's predominantly white company. Now the show will have its world premiere collaboration between TheatreWorks Silicon Valley and Denmark's Fredericia Teater, directed by Scott Schwartz.

Ending one of the longest tenures in American theatre, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley announced today that Founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley will retire at the conclusion of the company's 50th season, 2019/2020.

Mark Rylance, three-time Tony Award winner (Jerusalem, Boeing-Boeing, Twelfth Night) and Academy Award-winner (Bridge of Spies), will return to Broadway in the critically acclaimed Shakespeare's Globe production of FARINELLI AND THE KING, a new play with music by author and composer Claire van Kampen, it was announced today by producers Sonia Friedman, Shakespeare's Globe and Paula Marie Black.
