Ten of America's best theatrical storytellers (the minds behind such hits as The Full Monty, Driving Miss Daisy, M. Butterfly, and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike) join director-choreographer Christopher Gattelli (Newsies, The King and I) and composer Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime) to create a ravishing evening that glides, leaps, and twirls through the giddy extremes of romantic love. This unique event ranges across eras and cultures and tells its stories through the universal language of dance, from classical ballet to swing to tap to ballroom to jazz to flamenco and more. The sparkling new Broadway musical Shuffle Along boasts an all-star cast and one heck of a tap-happy, super talented ensemble. This guy has charisma to spare and literally bursts out of the chorus performing a rapid-fire succession of rhythm turns that are reminiscent of the dynamic tapping from the old classic movie musicals.

First up, we're Getting To Know…Amber Buker, who with her partner Randall Tye Pike, is launching Nashville's latest theater company - Distraction Theatre - this summer at the iconic Darkhorse Theater. Even before we subjected her to a good and dramatic drilling/grilling and/or questioning, we knew her to be charming and direct, two of the attributes all theater folk should develop. But as we pummeled her with queries, we discovered something else: she once competed for the title of Miss Oklahoma, a fact that ingratiated her to us immediately.

At Joe's Pub, located inside The Public Theater in the neighborhood of Astor Place, I dined at the cabaret on March 26, 2016. While in the venue's intimate setting, which included a fusion cuisine menu and a glass of Pinot Noir, I imagined that this would be the type of setting that flamenco in España (Spain) is performed. I was seated roughly forty feet from where I would see their feet.

When vocalist Todd Murray discovered several of the musicians for his excellent show Croon were unavailable for their scheduled Valentine's Day appearance last Sunday afternoon at the Metropolitan Room, he asked Sean Harkness (the guitarist in the show) to join him for a two-hander. The fortuitous accident yielded a terrific presentation of romantic material from sentimental to ardent, a pared down sharing of unadulterated heart and high musical craft that deserves wider audience. “It's our goal to put you in the mood,” Murray tells us. They do.

This past weekend my high school theatre troupe attended Georgia Thespian Conference (We call it Thescon), and it was my first time experiencing the beauty of it all. When I asked my friends about their favorite memories, Hope Emerson said, "I loved just being able to be myself the whole time with all my friends, and no one judged because we were all there for the same reason- our love for theatre!" This made me think about the incredibleness of it all- how over 4,000 theatre kids in high school across the state came together to experience a weekend of workshops and watching several schools perform amazing shows.
Mother-to-be Elizabeth is haunted by her inconclusive prenatal test results, the fact that she never knew her biological mother... and a talking plastic baby. Deeply personal and darkly comic, Well Born is a twisted dramedy about otherness, acceptance, and facing your fears.
