Christine Lahti is headed to New York to star as Gloria Steinem in the world premiere of Gloria: A Life, a new play about Ms. Steinem as a symbol of past, present and future change. The play, written by Tony Award-nominee Emily Mann (Having Our Say), is directed by the visionary Tony Award-winning Diane Paulus (Waitress, Pippin). 

Tony Award-winning producer Daryl Roth has announced the world premiere of GLORIA: A LIFE, a new play about Gloria Steinem as a symbol of past, present and future change. Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the Music Mondays summer concert series on Monday nights in July and August, with all shows at 8 pm. This year's lineup includes performances by Jackie Hoffman (Hairspray, Feud: Bette and Joan) on July 2, Norm Lewis (Jesus Christ Superstar - Live in Concert!, Porgy and Bess) on July 9, Lucie Arnaz (The Lucy Show, Pippin) on July 16, Isaac Mizrahi (Project Runway: All-Stars, Unzipped) on August 6, Charles Busch (The Divine Sister, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom) on August 13, Bobby Conte Thornton (A Bronx Tale: The Musical, Bay Street Theater's My Fair Lady) on August 20, and Mandy Gonzalez (Hamilton, Wicked) on August 27.

Back in 2014, reports began to circulate that the Weinstein Company would bring Pippin to the big screen, with the help of producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Now according to Deadline, TWC has officially lost the rights to the film amidst the company's recent bankruptcy filings.

Princess Cruises and Oscar, Grammy and Tony award-winning composer Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Godspell) today announced the creative team for the third show in its exclusive partnership, The Silk Crane. 

Stephen Schwartz, the composer and lyricist who brought us WICKED in 2003, began his career over 40 years past with GODSPELL in '71 and PIPPIN the next year. After a successful 2014 Equity tour a follow up non-equity tour opens at The Playhouse on March 7 for a 6-day run.

Kicking off the season is Broadway's Gavin Creel, Olivier Award Winning star "The Book of Mormon and star of "She Loves Me" performing on December 30 at 8:00 PM, immediately prior to his return to Broadway where he will co-star with Bette Midler in "Hello Dolly!." On Sunday, March 13th at 4pm, Young Artists of America at Strathmore (YAA) presented the youth premiere of the new symphonic version of Children of Eden by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Pippin and The Prince of Egypt). Schwartz himself worked as a guest mentor with the YAA high school-aged students. The cast, full symphonic orchestra, and chorus will include over 350 youth from all over the DC Metro area including 250 younger artists from North Bethesda Middle School. The performance took place at The Music Center at Strathmore (5301 Tuckerman Ln, North Bethesda, MD).

After seeing Middle Township High School's production, community members petition for more restrictions on material performed.

The award-winning composer and special guests perform selections from his catalog of stage and screen favorites like 'Magic to Do' from Pippin; 'When You Believe' from the DreamWorks' animated feature, The Prince of Egypt; 'Day By Day' from Godspell and several selections from the Broadway hit Wicked, including 'Defying Gravity.'

The 2016-2017 Broadway in Wilmington series at The Playhouse on Rodney Square, announced today, will feature two more productions than the current season, bringing the total to eight. In the second season under the management of The Grand Opera House, the series will expand to five full-productions: A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, Kinky Boots, Cinderella, the 20th anniversary re-mount of Riverdance, and Pippin. In addition, the schedule will include three weekend-only productions, known in the business as splits: Rent, Broadway Christmas Wonderland, and Once. Six of the eight productions are Playhouse premieres, and Riverdance holds the record as one of the highest-grossing shows in Playhouse history. The 2016-17 season will include four Tony Award winners for Best Musical and one Best Musical Revival, and a raft of other honors.

Broadway was morphing from the stock musical comedy formula towards the darker issues of life not usually seen on the musical stage . There was a young Stephen Sondheim delving into the deep interpersonal relations of marriage in COMPANY and FOLLIES, while Michael Bennett had gathered a group of young dancers who were exposing their inner demons and life stories in A CHORUS LINE. Meanwhile the composer Stephen Schwartz began his career with PIPPIN and would later write hit scores for GODSPELL and WICKED
