According to the Rodgers and Hammerstein Theatricals History, when the very first national tour of South Pacific played Atlanta's Tower Theatre in February 1953, the Georgia state legislature issued a vehement protest, mainly in response to the song "You've Got to Be Carefully Taught". When the award winning Broadway revival of this classic musical plays Atlanta's Fox Theatre April 6 - 11, the reception should be much different. Singing that haunting song and playing the role of Lt. Joseph Cable will be Anderson Davis. I caught up with Anderson recently and had a chat about his career, his character and the show.

The Farmington Players Barn will end their run of the play, 'From The Mountains of Mourne to the Mines of Montana.' It is a little known tale of 'The West,' that brought Irish ancestors to the Detroit area. Director Sue Rogers of West Bloomfield says, the play is 'dedicated to their valiant spirit.' Rogers emphasizes that the work by Lisa Hayes 'provides a very personal opportunity to share that pride in our heritage; to sing songs, tell stories and enjoy each other's company-what the Irish refer to as ‘craic.'

The 92nd Street Y has announced casting for the 2010 season of Lyrics & Lyricists. Lucie Arnaz, Debby Boone, Capathia Jenkins, James Naughton and Raúl Esparza are among the performers who will present the music of the Desi Arnaz Orchestra, Johnny Burke and Hoagy Carmichael. The season also includes a night of songs made famous by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and one devoted to the art of the satirical song, featuring works by Tom Lehrer, 'Yip' Harburg, Stephen Sondheim and others. The season is curated by series artistic director Deborah Grace Winer, and a line-up of guest artistic directors - Lucie Arnaz, Daryl Sherman, Rob Fisher, and Ted Sperling.
