Music for Lifelong Achievement (MFLA) Announces a Very Special Partnership with Horns to Havana,

Music for Lifelong Achievement (MFLA) is pleased to announce a very special partnership with Horns to Havana, a non-profit organization based out of The Center For Cuban Studies in New York City. Throughout February and March, 2011, MFLA will team up with Horns to Havana to collect used musical instruments to be delivered to students in and around Havana, Cuba in the Fall of 2011. Instrument donations will be accepted at any Sheldon Concert Hall performance during the months of February and March, as well as at The Sheldon's administrative offices during normal business hours, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., or during public gallery hours on Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

2011 Student Academy Awards Competition Now Underway

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is now accepting entries for the 2011 Student Academy Awards competition. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, along with cash prizes, may be awarded to U.S. student filmmakers in the following categories: Alternative, Animation, Narrative and Documentary.

33 U.S. Opera Companies to Feature American Operas over the Next Two Seasons

Widely renowned as a pioneer of conceptual art, American artist John Baldessari (b. 1931, National City, California) is one of the most influential contemporary artists of the last 50 years. John Baldessari: Pure Beauty, the first major U.S. exhibition in 20 years to survey Baldessari's career, will be on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from October 20, 2010, through January 9, 2011. This retrospective will feature approximately 120 works spanning the period from 1962 to 2010.

AMC Aquires Rights To Godfather Films Through 2019

In a move that further solidifies its offering of premium television on basic cable, AMC announced today it has obtained exclusive U.S. cable rights from Paramount Pictures to The Godfather (1972), The Godfather: Part II (1974) and The Godfather: Part III (1990) for the next nine years, beginning January 2011 through December 2019.

Jacob's Pillow Announces 2010 Season

Jacob's Pillow announces its 2010 full season calendar, including more than 200 free performances, talks, photography exhibits, tours, and events. Free event highlights include the Blake's Barn exhibit Lois Greenfield: Imagined Moments, featuring Greenfield's signature dance photography, and 'Let's Dance!' a new community event on July 4 with free dance classes and workshops for teens and adults. PillowTalks, held Thursdays at 5pm and Saturdays at 4pm, include Virginia Johnson, recently named Artistic Director of Dance Theatre of Harlem (June 24), choreographer/director Bill T. Jones (July 22), and the return of Pulitzer Prize winner Jules Feiffer (July 31). Inside/Out performance highlights include the all-female hip-hop group Decadancetheatre (July 7), the dancers of The School at Jacob's Pillow's first ever Tap Program (July 10), alumnus of The School at Jacob's Pillow and Artistic Director of his own ensemble, Avi Scher (July 23), and ¡Flamenco Revolución! (August 27).

After 32 years, it seems as if every year, everyone and his agent sends a one-act play script to The Ensemble Studio Theatre for its annual marathon of one-act plays, the oldest, acclaimed one-act play festival in the country. This year is no exception with 886 one-act scripts totaling 21,264 pages which were read by 17 readers over 5 months. From that, Ensemble Studio Theatre artistic director William Carden selected 10 plays this spring to be presented on two separate programs for the Ensemble Studio Theatre's 2010 Marathon of One-Act Plays May 24 through June 26.

Academy Announces Winners for 2010 Student Academy Awards
