This just in: The paranormal television show, Spirit Sniffers, will be coming to Derry, NH for a live taping at the haunted Blackwood Opera House. Owned by actress Florence Blackwood and her family, the Opera House closed in 1946 after a series of murders committed by the young actress. The spirit of Florence is rumored to still be wandering the Opera House and now you can join the Spirit Sniffers on location for their craziest investigation yet! The NH Theatre Factory presents Ghost Hunting: The Musical Murder-Mystery, an original musical comedy by Artistic Director Joel Mercier. Two paranormal investigators, the show's sleazy producer, a crack-pot psychic, and one nasty nun attempt to make contact with the spirit of Florence Blackwood. The taping goes from bad to complete disaster when not only does a ghostly sighting occur, but someone winds up dead! Was it the ghost or someone of Flesh and Blood who committed the murder? Official: Ruth Wilson to Star in, Co-Direct World Premiere of THE EL. TRAIN, Three Plays by O'Neill, Dec 6-30

Ruth Wilson (Saving Mr Banks, Anna Christie, A Streetcar Named Desire, Luther, The Lone Ranger) will star in the London premiere of The El. Train: three one-act plays by Eugene O'Neill (The Web, Before Breakfast and The Dreamy Kid). The plays, written between 1913 and 1918, are being presented together for the first time. Ruth will act in The Web and Before Breakfast, directed by Sam Yates, and will make her directorial debut with The Dreamy Kid. Combining live music with immersive design, all housed in the intimate setting of Grade II listed Hoxton Hall (built 1863, seating an audience of 125), The El. Train will run for a limited four-week season from 6 December - 30 December, with press nights on the 12 & 13 December. Design is by Richard Kent, with lighting by Neil Austin and original composition and sound design by Alex Baranowski. The El. Train is being produced by Found Productions. Coachella Valley Repertory Theatre's MASTER CLASS, playing through November 10, is the first MUST SEE production of the desert's 2013-2014 theatrical season! It is what you might call a "triple threat" production --- one of Terrance McNally's finest books, a superb (that is putting it mildly) leading lady, and a production that fits CV-Rep's intimate space like a glove. The only real disappointment in the evening was the half full theatre - a tragedy! This production DESERVES an audience and I place it squarely atop my list of "run - don't walk to get your tickets before the final curtain' evenings in the theatre. (more...)

Told in a narrative form, Protecting The Mentally Challenged Young Adult exposes the dangers that can harm adults who, despite not being in their right frame of judgment, are given the freedom to make weak and unstable decisions in a grown-up world. The Passions of Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, a major retrospective that will explore the life and work of the exceptionally gifted, deeply tormented sculptor who defined the heady atmosphere of the Second Empire in France (1852–1871), will be on view at the Metropolitan Museum beginning March 10. The first full-scale exhibition in 38 years devoted to Carpeaux (1827–1875), it will feature about 160 works including sculptures, paintings, and drawings, which will be organized around the major projects that the artist undertook during his brief and stormy career. Major international loans that have never before traveled to the United States, or have not been here for decades, will come from the Musée d'Orsay; Musée des Beaux-Arts, Valenciennes (Carpeaux's birthplace); the Louvre, Petit Palais, and other French institutions; and the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen. Important loans will also come from the Getty in Los Angeles and from private collections. (more...)

Full Cast Announced for 1812 Productions' IT'S MY PARTY: THE WOMEN AND COMEDY PROJECT

Beginning in April, 2013, 1812 Productions will present the world premiere comedy It's My Party: The Women and Comedy Project, created and directed by 1812 Productions' Artistic Director, Jennifer Childs, and featuring a diverse ensemble of Philadelphia actresses. A production which will use physical comedy, storytelling, and music in a one-of-a-kind theatrical event, the creative process for It's My Party: The Women and Comedy Project began in 2010 with two questions: how do women use comedy and how does that usage change as they age. With these pointed inquiries as her guides, Ms. Childs embarked on three inclusive and ongoing initiatives which, together, would form the core of the Project. (more...)
