Piotr Borowski, a student and collaborator of Jerzy Grotowski and co-founder of Gardzienice Theatre, has created a stage adaptation of 'Chasing the King of Hearts' by Hannah Krall. The book is a 2007 bestseller of spiritual survival in the fateless universe of the Holocaust. Borowski's play, 'The King of Hearts is Off Again,' is a memory piece with physical theater that has been presented in California and the Midwest. La MaMa will present present the Kulture+ production of this play, acted by Studium Teatralne, for its East Coast debut November 26 to 30, 2014. The piece will be performed by actors from Warsaw, where it was developed.'

Henry Bushkin's new Johnny Carson/TONIGHT SHOW musical, based on his own book about the late-night host, is quickly shaping up.
Rodgers & Hammerstein are, to me, the comfort food of musical theatre. Of all their shows, THE KING AND I holds up the best some 65 years on. It avoids the saccharine sweetness and didactic qualities of some of their other works. The musical is based on the 1944 novel 'Anna and the King of Siam' by Margaret Landon, which was derived from Anna Leonowens memoirs of her time as governess to the children of King Mongkut of Siam in the early 1860's. The musical tells the story of Anna, a British schoolteacher hired as part of the King's drive to modernize his country. Their relationship is marked by conflict as well as by a love that neither can admit to. Premiering on March 29 in 1951, THE KING AND I ran nearly three years, and, at the time, was the fourth longest-running Broadway musical in history.
Tony nominee Daniel Jenkins originated the role of Huck in the original Broadway production of BIG RIVER and earned both a Tony and Drama Desk nomination for his portrayal. He also starred as Mark Twain/Voice of Huck in the critically acclaimed 2003 Deaf West Production of the musical, which is quickly becoming a classic. Now, he's ready to revisit the material that changed his life in the upcoming 54 SINGS BIG RIVER at Broadway's Supper Club, 54 Below. Joined by fellow original cast members Marin Mazzie and Jennifer Leigh Warren, as well as the 2003 revival's Michael McElroy. Jenkins took the time to chat with BroadwayWorld about the upcoming performance and what it's like to be involved in such an incredible reunion. Read the full interview below!

On Sunday September 7, at Sterling's Upstairs at the Federal, due to an advance sell-out crowd for the 7 pm show, an additional matinee show was performed for the Fourth Anniversary of Kritzerland. Needless to say, both matinee and evening performances were sold out, making the monthly Kritzerland tributes the most popular shows at Sterling's Upstairs at the Federal. The anniversary party was entitled They're Playing Our Song: The Songs That Got Away III and along with special guests Kerry O'Malley and Bruce Vilanch, the big cast also included Robert Yacko, Evan Harris, Madison Claire Parks, Sami Staitman, Jenna Lea Rosen, and also little Hadley Miller, and in chorus numbers of What If?: Kimberly Hessler, Travis Leland, Bruce Merkle, and Adrienne Visnic, all under the baton of super musical director John Boswell. This marked the 49th Kritzerland show since its inception at the Gardenia in 2010, and its host Bruce Kimmel, founder of Kritzerland Records, was in rare form, doling out trivia-worthy anecdotes about every number presented, as well as singing a song himself, due to the absence of Guy Haines.

I had never heard of the television musical ANDROCLES AND THE LION until Masterworks Broadway announced they'd be releasing the cast recording. NBC originally aired the broadcast on November 16, 1967, and it was met with mixed reviews. Shortly thereafter, the show vanished. Now, with Masterworks Broadway recent release, this entirely forgotten gem is seeing the light of day again.
