From May 22 - June 1, 2014 Houston Ballet offers up a mixed repertory program showcasing works by three of the twentieth century's greatest choreographers entitled Modern Masters. The program features the company premiere of Jir?i? Kylia?n's comic and delightful Sechs Ta?nze (Six Dances), along with revivals of his playful and sexy work Petite Mort, William Forsythe's explosive In the middle, somewhat elevated and George Balanchine's complex and inventive The Four Temperaments. Houston Ballet will give six performances of the program in the Brown Theater at Wortham Theater Center. The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts has acquired Jules Fisher's personal collection of scenic renderings by Jo Mielziner, making the biggest private collection of the theatrical designer's work available to the public for the first time. The Jules Fisher Collection of Jo Mielziner Designs significantly expands and enhances the current holdings of Mielziner materials within the Library's Billy Rose Theatre Division, creating one of the largest and most robust archives of the artist's work anywhere.
World-renowned cellist YO-YO MA will join Music Director LARRY RACHLEFF and the RHODE ISLAND PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA in a grand gala concert to launch the Philharmonic's 70th anniversary season. Mr. Ma will play Elgar's Cello Concerto with the orchestra. The orchestra will also perform Stravinsky's Firebird Suiteand Berlioz's Béatrice et Bénédict Overture. Executive Director Jonathan Josephson, Producing Artistic Director Jeff G. Rack and Artistic Director Paul Millet have announced the cast for tonight's April 12th (6pm-12am) fundraiser, A Night at the Mausoleum II. The evening is headlined by a staged reading of Kick the Can, one of legendary TV-writer George Clayton Johnson's episode of The Twilight Zone. Johnson also wrote Nothing in the Dark and A Penny For Your Thoughts for the iconic sci-fi television show.
