Producers David Richenthal and Jack Viertel have announced that the cast and orchestra of the acclaimed Broadway production of Finian's Rainbow, will hit the recording studio on December 7 to record a new cast alum of the show. The album, featuring Yip Harburg-Burton Lane's score, is being produced by Tommy Kasker of PS Classics.

'If musical theatre doesn't address important issues, who will?,' read a t-shirt I spotted at the Broadway Flea Market several years ago. And while America's theater history is rich with important issue addressing musical dramas like Show Boat and Ragtime, when Finian's Rainbow hit Broadway in 1947 it was pretty much unheard of for a musical comedy to have its main plot centered on attacking institutionalized racism.
Finian's Rainbow began previews at Broadway's ST. James Theatre, 246 West 44 Street, on Thursday, October 8 at 8pm, and celebrated Opening Night, last night, Thursday, October 29 at 6:45pm. BroadwayWorld.com was there as the stars arrived for the first night festivities!
