BWW Review: LIFE SUCKS at Epic Theatre, Doesn't Suck

It probably takes a certain level of masochism to spend part of a weekend at a play called LIFE SUCKS, but it's (probably) been proven that watching the struggles of other people makes us feel better about our own circumstances. In the case of this play, viewers can feel doubly smug because it's based on Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, and therefore counts as high culture.  Playwright Aaron Posner is making a career of turning the classics on their head--Wilbury Theatre company recently produced Stupid F%&*ng Bird, a play of his based on The Seagull, and there is a lot in the production to enjoy and identify with, even for those not intimately familiar with the source material. A culmination of two years of research and performance, the symposium will feature readings of Št?pan Šimek's new translations of The Three Sisters, Uncle Vanya, The Seagull and The Cherry Orchard. Each piece was workshopped with PETE to collaboratively  translate not just the words, but the ACTION of the plays. Austin Pendleton Returns To Give His Master Class At United Solo

Due to popular demand, United Solo brings back Austin Pendleton to teach in the Master Class Series on May 31, 2018 at Theatre Row in New York City. This class provides participants with the opportunity to meet, work, and be discovered by one of the most influential theatre directors. Austin Pendleton will spend time working with the participants on scenes and monologues. He will offer his critique and thoughts on participants' work, gradually trying to reach a wider evaluation of the strengths and potential of each actor. Participants are expected to bring a scene from material they are currently working on. All ages and levels of theatrical experience encouraged. Space is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. "Participants of the United Solo Master Class Series have an incredible opportunity to work in a collaborative setting with industry leaders in theatre, television, and film. The nuggets of wisdom gained from these sessions, as well as the opportunity to connect with top-notch professionals, is an invaluable experience that we, as artists, can take with us for a lifetime," says Pat McAndrew, Master Class Manager at United Solo.
