The Orchestra Now Announces 2018-19 Performance Season

The Orchestra Now (TON), the visionary orchestra and master's degree program founded in 2015 by Bard College president and conductor, educator, and music historian Leon Botstein, will open its fourth season on September 15, 2018. Five individual series and two special events will present 17 different programs offering innovative combinations of familiar and lesser-known repertoire through May 19, 2019. To date, the young members of TON have performed close to 100 concerts for more than 35,000 New Yorkers. (more...)

DISNEY'S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST opens at Artisan Center Theater on Friday, May 25, 2018 and runs through Saturday, July 7, 2018. The 196 seat theater-in-the-round is located at 444 East Pipeline Road in Hurst. Performances are at 7:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with 3:00pm matinees on Saturdays beginning June 2. Rose Theatre Kingston Announces 2018 Christmas Show HANSEL & GRETEL

Rose Theatre Kingston today announces its 2018 Christmas show, a festive new version with original music of the Brothers' Grimm classic Hansel & Gretel written by Ciaran McConville, who returns to the theatre following last year's successful adaptation of Alice in Winterland. Rosie Jones will direct a cast of local young actors from Rose Youth Theatre led by a team of professional actors. The Handel and Haydn Society continues its 2017-18 Season with two performances of Henry Purcell's The Fairy Queen on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall. Conducted by Harry Christophers and narrated by Antonia Christophers, Purcell's exquisite music is made vivid and colorful with ingenious dramatic effects and an entertaining script by Jeremy Sams, creator of the Metropolitan Opera's The Enchanted Island. Lerner and Loewe created MY FAIR LADY from Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion". Rodgers and Hammerstein adapted the 1909 Ferenc Molnar play "Liliom" and transplanted the setting from Budapest to the coast of Maine in CAROUSEL. That's generally how musicals are birthed. Not so with THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, which makes its nascency the more intriguing and Broadway fanciful. (more...)

Verdi's Luisa Miller returns to the Met for the first time since 2006, starring Sonya Yoncheva as the title character and Piotr Beczala as her lover, Rodolfo.Placido Domingo adds a new role to his Met repertory as Miller, Luisa's father, a role he shares with Luca Salsi. Olesya Petrova sings the widowed duchess Federica, Alexander Vinogradov is the lord Walter, and Dmitry Belosselskiy sings the role of Wurm. Legendary ballet costume designer HOLLY HYNES and costume and scenic designer ZACK BROWN are among the 2018 TDF/Irene Sharaff Award recipients which were just announced by TDF, the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts. Ms. Hynes was selected to receive the 2018 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design and Mr. Brown will receive the Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. The awards are presented through TDF's Costume Collection. San Diego Symphony Announces 2018-2019 Season Featuring First Concerts Conducted by Rafael Payare as Music Director

Rafael Payare's highly anticipated inaugural concerts as San Diego Symphony's Music Director Designate take place as part of the annual January Festival. It will mark his only Jacobs Masterworks appearance this season and will feature acclaimed cellist Alisa Weilerstein and the orchestra's first-ever performance of Benjamin Britten's Symphony for Cello and Orchestra. He will also perform in a special Discovery Night concert on January 10, with all funds from this concert going to support the San Diego Symphony's Learning and Community Engagement programs.
