"Another op'nin, another show. Four weeks, you rehearse and rehearse. Three weeks, and it couldn't be worse. One week, will it ever be right? Then out of the hat it's that big first night." Those opening lyrics to Cole Porter's classic musical had double meaning at Friday night's opening performance of Runaway Stage Productions' "Kiss Me Kate." Despite a few kinks in sets and sound, the talented cast had its energetic audience laughing, smiling and applauding from start to finish.
Runaway Stage Productions presents the Cole Porter classic musical comedy KISS ME KATE from tonight, May 11 - June 3, 2012, at the 24th Street Theatre in Sacramento.

Hannah Waddingham will play Lilli Vanessi in Trevor Nunn's Kiss Me Kate at the Chichester Festival Theatre, which will open June 18, the UK Daily Mail reports. She will star opposite the previously announced Australian actor Adam Garcia, who will play ladies' man Bill Calhoun, as well as Clive Rowe and David Burt, who will play the pair of gangsters who sing Brush Up Your Shakespeare. Stephen Mear will choreograph.
Adam Garcia has confirmed he will be playing Bill Calhoun in Sir Trevor Nunn's forthcoming production of Kiss Me Kate at Chichester.
Chichester Festival Theatre celebrates its 50th birthday with an anniversary season that echoes and acknowledges the past while also looking to the future. Uncle Vanya was part of Chichester's very first season in 1962 and became a key part of its history and is revisited during Festival 2012. The Way of the World in 1984 has also become an emblematic production; the play will feature again this year.
With a score filled with so many Cole Porter tunes that you're fairly drunk with delight after hearing them, the expert direction and choreography of musical theatre aficionado Kate Adams-Johnson, and a cast of extraordinarily gifted performers breathing vigorous life into the time-honored text, the new production of Kiss Me, Kate at The Keeton Theatre should be atop your list of must-see theatrical events in this very busy month of February. Sam and Bella Spewack's witty, sparkling script is brought to life with flourish, proving this period piece-which was named winner of the very first Tony Award for best musical-to be, in fact, a timeless classic, a musical theatre masterpiece that deserves to be seen over and over again.
Combine Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew with Cole Porter's music and lyrics to get Kiss Me, Kate, the droll play-within-a-play where each cast member's on-stage life is complicated by what is happening offstage. Including such musical favorites as 'I Hate Men,' 'Wunderbar,' 'Too Darn Hot,' and 'Brush Up Your Shakespeare,' Kiss Me, Kate is fun, melodious and sophisticated.
Today in 1948, opened at the Shubert Theatre. Kiss Me, Kate is a musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. It is structured as a play within a play, where the interior play is a musical version of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. The original production starred Alfred Drake, Patricia Morison, Lisa Kirk and Harold Lang. Kiss Me, Kate was a response to Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! and other integrated musicals, and it proved to be his biggest hit and the only one of his shows to run for more than 1,000 performances on Broadway. It won the first Tony Award presented for Best Musical, in 1949.
According to Baz Bamigoye for Daily Mial, Trevor Nunn will direct a production of KISS ME KATE at Chichester Festival Theatre next year, which will likely make a West End transfer soon after. To read the full article, click here.
