TheatreWorks Silicon Valley Hosts Release Party For Hit Musical FOUR IMMIGRANTS Cast Album

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley launched the cast album for The Four Immigrants: An American Musical Manga at an exclusive release party at OPAL Night Club in Mountain View on Monday. The album features an infectious ragtime and vaudeville score by Bay Area composer/lyricist Min Kahng. Drawn from one of the first ever graphic novels, this comic musical follows four Japanese immigrants through a world of possibility and prejudice in turn-of-the-twentieth-century San Francisco. From surviving the tumultuous earthquake of 1906 to an exhilarating World's Fair, audiences can relive the hit show and listen as the determined quartet pursues the American Dream, despite limited options in the land of opportunity. Kevin Winkler To Introduce The Film SWEET CHARITY At The Quad Cinema as Part of Bob Fosse Film Series

This coming Saturday, August 4 that 1:00pm, Kevin Winkler, the author of the recently acclaimed book, BIG DEAL: Bob Fosse and Dance in the American Musical, will introduce the film "SWEET CHARITY" at the Quad Cinema, 34 West 13th St NYC 10011. The film is part of the current Bob Fosse film series. This screening will be the uncut, original roadshow version of the film, that starred Shirley MacLaine, Chita Rivera, John McMartin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Stubby Kaye, Paula Kelly, Ben Vereen. This was Fosse's first film that he directed. The film received three Academy Award nominations.

Hartwig Fischer Introduces The British Museum's Annual Review 2017/18

The British Museum lent 2,200 objects to 81 venues outside the UK from Toledo, Ohio to Hobart, Australia. In November, India and the World, a history in nine stories opened at CSMVS in Mumbai. Supported by the Getty Foundation and Tata Trusts, this is the first exhibition of its kind, a collaborative partnership between CSMVS, the National Museum of Delhi and the British Museum. Indian objects were selected from collections across India and the British Museum provided global objects to show the interconnectivity of India to the world throughout the centuries. The exhibition received over 200,000 visitors in Mumbai and has recently opened in Delhi.

Following Odyssey Opera's 2017-18 season dedicated to works inspired by Joan of Arc, Artistic and General Director Gil Rose today announced the company's 2018-19 season: a two-part journey with the first memorializing the 200th anniversary of French composer Charles Gounod's birth (as well as the 125th death anniversary), and the second inspired by one of the most enigmatic figures in ancient history, Helen of Troy. Celebrating its sixth season as one of the nation's most innovative opera companies, Odyssey Opera will present one U.S. premiere, four Boston premieres, three fully-staged productions, and two concert operas. When The Jazz Singer was released to theaters in 1927, the world of motion pictures, as we've come to know it, began.  From that date through the mid-1980s, nothing was more popular across this nation than the movies. From Saturday morning kids' runs of cartoons and sci-fi low-budget films (The Brain That Wouldn't Die) to such classics as Gone with the Wind, Citizen Kane and The Wizard of Oz, Americans were passionate about the movies. 

TCM To Pay Tribute To Musicals In June Programming Special 'Mad About Musicals!'

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will pay homage to the glittering world of Hollywood musicals with Mad About Musicals!, a special month of programming celebrating timeless movie musicals such as The Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain and Cabaret. On Sunday, March 25th, the United Palace of Cultural Arts will present a multisensory screening of Fritz Lang's legendary silent film, 'Metropolis' (1927), an expressionist epic that was among the first feature-length science fiction films. Award-winning flutist and composer Yael Acher "KAT" Modiano will bring the classic to life with her own electro-acoustic score - which she creates entirely with flute and special effects. She brings her talents to the United Palace following performances at Lincoln Center, The High Line, Jewish Heritage Museum and more.
