Main Street Theater Announces 42nd Season

Main Street Theater's (MST) 2017 - 2018 Season will offer plays that embody alternate takes on moments in history, in literature, and in the way people view the world.  With 5 regional premieres on the MainStage and 7 plays based on children's books at the Theater for Youth, MST's 42nd season opens in September 2017 and runs through June 2018.

The House of Life, a poetic and expansive installation by Hadassa Goldvicht, explores themes of historical memory; the threshold between life, death, myth, and art; and the rapidly changing nature of Venice, via a multi-channel video work that will be installed at the Querini Stampalia in conjunction with the Venice Biennale. Presented by the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, in collaboration with Meislin Projects, the exhibition follows Aldo Izzo, the 86-year-old guardian and keeper of the Jewish cemeteries in Venice.

Cape Rep Theatre is celebrating its 32nd season with an exciting line up of plays and musicals, all of them Cape Cod premieres, one fresh from New York. The Indoor Theater season will open with Richard Nelson's Regular Singing, followed by Jaclyn Backhaus' ingenious comedy, Men On Boats.

The BAD BOY Comes Home to Strawbery Banke Museum, 3/31 - 4/9

Pontine Theatre presents its original staging of  The Story of a Bad Boy by Thomas Bailey Aldrich.  This classic story of a boy's adventures takes place in the semi-fictional town of Rivermouth (Portsmouth NH).  The production is underwritten by Optima Bank & Trust.  Performances take place  at Strawbery Banke Museum (14 Hancock Street) on Friday March 31 @7pm, Saturday April 1 & 8 @4pm, and Sunday April 2 & 9 @2pm. Tickets ($24) may be purchased online at www.pontine.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door a half-hour prior to each show, based on availability.  With an innovative use of puppetry and projected images, Pontine Co-Artistic Directors, Greg Gathers and Marguerite Mathews, tell the autobiographical story of a lively boy and his companions in mid-19th century Portsmouth, where Aldrich was sent to live under the watchful eyes of his grandfather. Aldrich's boyhood home, now part of Strawbery Banke Museum, will be open to audience members following each performance.

For its 15th consecutive season at the Kennedy Center, Russia's legendary Mariinsky Ballet returns with Alexei Ratmansky's contemporary retelling of the charming Russian fairy tale, The Little Humpbacked Horse, in a D.C. premiere for seven performances, January 31-February 5 in the Opera House. Ratmansky's command of comedy shines through this delightful ballet as it follows the classic children's folk tale of a simple young boy, Ivan the Fool, and his fantastical adventures with his friend, the Little Humpbacked Horse.After Ivan's two majestic stallions are stolen by his brothers to be sold, the magical Humpbacked Horse and a firebird feather lead him from a pastoral life at his father's farm into the service of the Tsar. The latter sends Ivan on a series of missions, almost impossible tasks, but with the assistance of his faithful companion, the valiant Ivan ends up winning the Tsar Maiden's hand and taking the throne. Principal casting will be announced at a later date. All performances will be accompanied by the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra.
