For over 80 years, the name Martha Graham has been synonymous with American modern dance. Performing some of Graham's classic works, including 'Appalachian Spring,' this internationally acclaimed company, called 'one of the seven wonders of the artistic universe' by the Washington Post, celebrates both the past and future of this distinctly American art form.
The Jewish Museum will present Modern Art, Sacred Space: Motherwell, Ferber and Gottlieb from March 14 through August 1, 2010. This new exhibition focuses on a revolutionary moment in American synagogue design. In 1951, architect Percival Goodman commissioned three avant-garde artists to create works for his Congregation B'nai Israel synagogue in Millburn, New Jersey. Robert Motherwell, Herbert Ferber, and Adolph Gottlieb - each of whom later became a prominent figure in the Abstract Expressionist movement - created, respectively, an expansive lobby mural, a monumental exterior sculpture, and a large-scale Torah curtain. Congregation B'nai Israel drew national attention as the first congregation to introduce contemporary abstract art and was heralded as an outstanding example of modern religious architecture.

George Street Playhouse begins 2009 with its production of Donald Marguiles' Sight Unseen. When first presented in 1992, the play won the OBIE Award for Best New American Play, was nominated for a Drama Desk, and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. George Street Playhouse Artistic Director will helm the production, slated to run at the New Brunswick theatre January2020 - February 15, 2009. Matthew Arkin, last seen at GSP in their production of Theresa Rebeck's The Scene, leads an ensemble including Heidi Armbruster, Christopher Curry and Kathleen McNenny.
